Look at shorelinemtn.com, gearexpress.com, sportextreme.com. There are other websites out there too. However, it's been my experience that you get what you pay for. If you just buy cheap gear, you get cheap gear. What you want to do, is get a DEAL on GOOD gear. Cheap gear works. But good gear works better, works longer, and makes you feel good. Alternatively, get a partner who's got some gear and knows how to use it.

Do yourself a favor in the long run and don't buy cheap gear. Cheap gear is cheap for a reason. Find out what gear works for your area and buy the best you can. Chuck

Buy the gear you really want, not the gear that costs the least. You'll regret it if waste your money on cheap junky gear that you end up hating and have to by something different cause you don't like it. When I started, I bought all these cheep store brand biners. They didn't stay long on the rope end of anything. But I used them a long time on the bolt side of quickdraws. Now they sit, replaced by something better. Find people to climb with that have gear and slowly build a good rack as you can afford.

BUY USED GEAR!!! The more used it is the cheaper it gets! Just look for the really shotty stuff, the stuff that looks like it has been through some tough times. PLease don't go do this...

Hey, I don't think you should buy gear online if you are just starting out. An outfitting store with knowledgable staff can help a lot in the beginning phase. There are also some things that you will want to try out before you buy such as harnesses and shoes. Sometimes you can save money by telling the retailer what you are looking to do - especially if you really aren't sure what to get.
