My partner suggested I get either Yates big wall ladders or Fish smart aiders. Being the cheap guy that I am I like the Fish ones over the Yates. But, in reality I want the ones that works best and price dosen't matter too much. Do you got anything to say either way about these or any other aiders out there. Thanks

Nate,
I have the Yates ladder style aiders and they are THE BEST aiders anyone makes, not to say that Fish doesn't make good ones, it's just that the handle on the Yates takes the sting out of overhanging terrain . Even the good Dr. loves the Yates and has recommended them before . Save your money and get the Yates, you'll thank me later. I'm gonna get a second pair myself.

Nate,
I just went to Fish and looked at the Smart Aiders, and I think the Yates are the way to go! (but I hate loop style aiders, they crush my feet all day)

Yeh, I want a pair of yates real bad. They look like they would take alot of pressure off your foot. Fish makes good stuff. But the yates design looks so much nicer. I have metolius right now. And am not thrilled with them. Once they are thrashed up I am going to get myself a pair or two of yates ladders.

Ahhh, the secrets out!!
The first time I used the Yates Aid Ladders, I soloed the Leaning Tower, 4:50.
Hey, I agree with you guys. They are so much easier to step your feet in, FAST.

I'm not sure if John (Yates) makes the speed ladder anymore. I have one of the proto-types I love it.
The speed ladder was a 5 step aider -vs- a 6 step.

You're right, the "Spreader Bar helps keep your feet from being "pinched" and is a great to hold on too!!. Also the last two steps have nice elastic loops underneath, to pull over your toe while your cleaning/jumaring to keep you foot in the step.
Yeah!!! Comfy...

It's my understanding that the only difference between Yates' Big Wall Ladder Aiders (which I own) and their Speed Ladder aiders is that the Speed Ladder aiders use only 1" webbing for the steps as opposed to the 2" steps that are on the oh-so-comfy Big Wall Ladders.
The Speed Ladders also have a different color for every step, for quicker identification.

My BD aiders are approaching the end of their career. I've been looking longingly at the comfy Yates Big Wall Ladders. I've normally use a 4 aider system but it seems like things would get very crowded using 4 Yates Big Wall Ladders. Am I correct in thinking that a move to the Yates Ladders also means a move to a 2 aider system? Or...could you perhaps match a single conventional aider with each Yates Ladder as a compromise?

Yes you can. I have a set of Onsight (an obscure Canadian Co. out of Squamish) collapsable aiders that are very light weight and velcro into a nice tidy package. Metolius' aiders with the little stuff sack might be a good way also.
I keep the third and fourth aider folded up when on easier ground, or if there are a lot a free moves on a pitch, and deploy them when the going gets tough.
Another way to go might be to go to the three aider system (my partner and I used to share a third aider when leading, now we each have four) if the third aider was kept on a "rack tether" you would have no risk of dropping it, and all the steps would definitely be the same length (I don't really care if they are down low, just when I'm topstepping, and mine are). And the Yates are the most comfortable to stand on. I often won't use the third and fourth even if they are out, because the Yates don't make hurt my feet after a long day. Like my 3/4" ones do.
Unless you were willing to find and adopt the Russian aider system, two long and two short Yates Big Wall Ladders (here I go sounding like an ad again!) are the ABSOLUTE BEST way you could go!!!
But the Russian systemis looking very good in "real world' testing and reporting!
