If you've ever tried to make (or re-fill) a crash pad, you know the soft, open cell foam is easy to find (sofa beds, upholstery shops, etc). It's the stiff foam that's rare. Well I just bought a bunch of dense closed cell foam. It's EVA foam which is more resilient than the white polyethylene slabs in crash pads, which pack down notoriously fast and offer little enegy absorption for their bulk IMO. If you need some, drop me a PM.

That depends how big your pad is and how thick you want to go. I can do 4 pieces, which would replace the closed cell in a typical fold-down-the-middle 3'x4' pad with a bit less than an inch of EVA for $8. $12 gets a triple layer (1-3/16 inch thick) which I suspect would be a noticeable upgrade. If there was room in the pad for it. BTW the foam comes in 22 inch width so some duct taping may be required for non-folding or X-large pads. Shipping additional unless you're a gunks local.

being that mike sent me the foam let me comment, the foam is really pretty thin so you will need at least twice as much if you wnat to go back to one inch of cloased cell foam. i have a metolius crash pad and i think you could probably squeeze three layers of the foam in there. its good stuff, and you cant beat the price. for something the size of the metolius pads i would suggest six pieces, 9 if you want it extra cushy CB( who is expecting his take of the profit)

sooo. if you don't mind my asking, how did you come by EVA foam??? I'm not entirely worried about the open cell celluose foam so much.

well, if you want high quality commercial grade stuff, just go to http://www.mcmaster.com they carry any and all types of foam you would ever want in your life. since they're located in most major cities, you can usually either pick up your order or have them ship it to you in any number of ways. or, you could always do a search online for a better deal.
