For lack of a better explanation, yeah.. I tried on EVERY pair of shoes they gym had today (probably 20 pairs of shoes), over the span of 2 hours, and only found one shoe that wasn't too wide or too pointy or had a heel that dug into my achilles.. I got a pair of (women's - I'm a girl) mythos. But here's the thing: when I walk in them, they fart.. I have air pockets under my arch, and they 'toot' when I walk.. also sometimes when I climb. they are otherwise the most comfy shoes I've tried on, and I love the way they work on the rock.. I also tried on a full size smaller than the size I got (I'm an 8.5 street shoe, and bought 37.5 mythos) which fit on my feet, but hurt. and still farted. Ok, is the farting a serious problem? Will it get worse or better as the shoes break in? Finally, if there is already a thread about this, I sincerely apologize.. I could not, for the life of me, find one. Thank you!

I wear a size 13 5.10 Spires and they did have the same problem you describe in the beginning. But they havent made any noise in the last few weeks so I assume they just needed to be broken in or something.

About a year ago I posted a thread about my farting madrocks. I had the sharks. The farting never stopped. But there was so much rubber on the shoes that they never stretched.

Keep with the smaller shoes theyll strech and youll get used to them sounds like youve got a high arch is all your foot doesnt match the average foot profile. but the shoes will strech and conform to your feet as long as their real leather.

I have been wearing Mythos for about 3 years, and they have always farted. I sized them down, and they have stretched perfectly for me, but they still fart. Other than the occasional embarassing sound effect, the farting hasn't caused me any problems.

thanks.. Yeah, I just have a really high arch/narrow heel. The shoes are pretty comfy (well, they feel like pointe shoes that are too small, but not PAINFUL), so far as I'm concerned. Yeah, my feet are kind of burning and throbbing in them, but I'm worried they will stretch too MUCH. How much do mythos stretch? As long as the 'farting' isn't a serious problem and it will go away once the shoes break in, I think I'm set with shoes.. none of the shoe people at the gym could give me a definitive answer about the farting. j

Apparently you don't have a dog to blame it on. I would recommend getting a dog...

Climbing shoes mold to your feet and stretch long-wise or width-wise with use (some more than others). You may be trying on shoes that, even though they are your size, your feet might not fill. My suggestion.... BUY YOUR OWN SHOES AND DONT LEND THEM TO ANYBODY. This will make YOUR shoes to mold to YOUR feet and not someone elses. Remember, shoes are the type of gear that fall in the "PERSONAL" category. If you're using gym shoes you are using "other people's shoes" that may or may not give YOU the use YOU need. At least thats what I do. JC

My Sportiva Cliffs used to be a little "Gassy" but this has since gone away. They are also a lace up shoe which I liked better than the velcro straps. I can really fine tune the fit across the entire shoe to meet the my needs for the type of climbing I am doing. :D

In reply to: Apparently you don't have a dog to blame it on. I would recommend getting a dog... Two things every guy needs: A leather couch and a dog. Blame the sound on the couch, and blame the smell on the dog.

how desperate are you to stop it? you could put a couple of very small holes in the arch. if you do it it's your choice, and if it ruins them it isn't my fault. i haven't ever tried this, but it seems like it would work.

I just got the Flashes and they fart on me like mad. Pretty amusing, I wouldn't call it a problem though.

The only shoe that ever gave me my foot gas would be the Mad Rock Flash & I think the Phoenix as well. At first it was embarrassing b/c people would be around me & as I would walk to the next route, my foot would fart. And I'd let the people around me know that my foot was farting by proving it to them. After a while I got used to it. Occassionally one would slip by my foot & I didn't have the chance to let them know that it was my foot javascript:emoticon('') If there happened to be a new person that I haven't met yet, I'd make the fart sound & as he/she looked at me I'd blame it on someone. Have fun w/ it.

I have the same problem when I wear my really small pair of Boreals because of my high arches. I'm still breaking them in though, so hopefully I'll stop fluffing with every footstep in time. PS: kudos for the great topic :)

I recently got some 5.10s that fart sooo bad! I love the shoes (I will never climb on anything but stealth ever again) But yeah, they fart. I always have to say, "that was my shoes" all day long. I get teased but it's funny. It's gotten to the point that now when my guy friends are around and someone really farts they say, "that was my shoe" even when we aren't climbing.

Wore the new shoes last night for the first time. The farting only lasted for the first few minutes - then I think my feet swelled and the leather warmed up and I was golden for the next 3 hours. The shoes fit perfectly. No problems there. Thanks for all the replies. :D Too bad my partner isn't sly enough to blame his farting on his shoes.. lol. At least hey's waaaaaay up the wall when he lets loose. And generally quieter than my shoes ever were.

Its all about fit, with your new shoes (depending on the type of climbing too). If your farting your just breaking that good seal that your foot has made with the shoes. Yeah you could get a smaller size, but get the one that feels the best for you length and and lace it up a little more around the arch. I heal fart every time i put on my shoes, and its a good feeling-perfect fit, -ahh, time to climb. all the other suggestions sounded good, just go climb in your own shoes.
