First Time to the Valley

Well, its starting to look official. As many know, I'm heading out to Portland for law school. It looks like I'm driving out to 'the center of the universe' on the way to Portland. I feel like its something I shouldn't miss.

So, having never been there, I'm looking for advice. I'm starting searching for information regarding accomdations and camping around the Valley, as well as climbing in and around the Valley. I know many here have lots of experience with the Valley, so I'm just putting out a request for any information, links, hints and tips.

Any information is appreciated!

What do you want to do while there? What kind of time frame do you have?

You've gotta stay in Camp 4 just for the experience. You'll spend the better part of 2 hours one morning waiting in line to get a site, but you can pay for as many as 7 days all in one shot. Stand in line like everyone else and forget about for a week. Most climbers use their site as a base camp, but are rarely there -- so no need to pay the big bucks for one of the other campgrounds or Curry Village.

Ed

(As a side note, unless this post gets to be more specific about aid climbing, I'll likely move it to regional)

Go to www.supertopo.com

If you buy their Yosemite free climbs book, you'll have the info you need.

Peace

Sweet! Congrats! Welcome...
Hope you like crack climbing on an awesome scale. Hope you can appreciate great weather. Springtime comes so soon to California. I say, 60m ropes, tape, crack climbing, camp @ C4 (early still), do you want routes? that can open up some mouths.

I say Serrenity (5.9),
...Alright, Bishops Terrace (5.8)
What would you say to a "new one" to the Valley?

Late, have a good time...

CF.

Maybe see ya up thar

sorry ed - didn't know where to put it.

thanks for the help. i'll probably be out there around the later part of may. graduation is may 6, but i have to close out all my bar tabs here so it'll be a while.

since i'm travelling alone, should i focus on quality or quanity of beer to entice climbers to climb with me? :D

any day i should arrive to get an easier site at C4? what's the situation at Curry? I know there's a few other camping areas from the (USGS) topos - are they too out of the way?

thanks so much!
