I am new to Winchester VA, and looking for somewhere to get into bouldering indoor and outdoor again. Let me know if you know of somewhere or someone. Thanks

You are pretty close to Coopers Rock S.P. right? Sweet gritstone type bouldering there.

crescent rocks about 15 minutes east on 7 is a decent place for some toproping, and i hear that there is some bouldering there if you look around. i live in purcellville and have been there a couple times, and there are alot of really cool climbs there if you have the gear to set up a rope. also shanondoah(sp?) NP allegedly has some decent bouldering....i have only been there once and it wasnt to climb, but if you pick up horst's climbing guide he explains where alot of that stuff is. indoorswise.......as far as i know there is nothing in winchester, the closest prolly would be sportrock in sterling? or somewhere around there, i checked it out and its pretty expensive. if you want some more ideas you can pm me and i would be glad to give you some more ideas or expand on what i mentioned

You are about 1 hr. + from the bouldering around Harrisonburg, VA: Hidden, Rawley, etc. A few jems there. You are less than 2 hrs. from the base of Old Rag. Plenty of bouldering and bushwack trad in a pristene setting (protected by a 3 mile 2000' hike). A long time ago I visited a crag near Winchester named Caudy's Castle (sp?). A few bolted routes on a wild fin. I believe there is no (public) access any longer. I would ask around. Locals may still have some access. Also there is CHimney ROcks, just outside of Broadway, VA. Unfortunately, this crag is officially closed also. This small spire is where I learned to climb. It is owned by the local VFW post, and climbers should unite to re-open negotiations with these folks. The spire has some history of climbing, with the first acent of the spire happening before the 50's and the classic lead routes established by local heros Eddie Begooon and Mike Artz in the 80's. PM me if you need more specific info.

For indoor (granted outdoor is better) I think the closest is Spotrock III in Sterling VA. http://www.sportrock.com/locations/sterling.asp 10,000 square feet and 40 foot walls. Not bad for a gym. And of course you're only about 2 hours from Seneca Rocks, WV... I live in McLean and we hit Seneca as often as we can - about every other weekend.
