Light rain in Point Loma (near downtown San Diego), but the forecast for tomorrow is dry. :D Mission Gorge is at its best in the Spring after a rain. Keeps the dust down. JV

Y'all are sissies! I just got back from a trip to Mt Woodson where I did my two favorite climbs in San Diego County! I did Uncertainty Principle, hiked up the hill and did Big Grunt. Unfortunately between the time I started BG and the time I finished it was down pouring. It was flowing water over the down climb so I slipped off and bounced to the rocks below. Luckily I was fine, but that was the sign to go. Before the rain hit my friend and I got on Robbin's Crack, Eric's Face, Poison Oak Crack, and I did a lot of boulder problems along the road. Now I'm sitting at home feeling satisfied drinking hot cider in warm flannel pajamas. Great weekend if you ask me!Enjoy the gym! Josh

Bandycoot, I suppose just out of curiousity (I'm in NorCal) but how do you protect Big Grunt? I remember it looking like an awfully grim lead (ie solo) and no obvious way to walk around and TR it. Looks like a fun climb!

Big Grunt is a solo. There aren't any bolts anywhere near the top out if I remember right, and there are NO accessory cracks. Just Wad yourself in the squeeze chimney from the bottom and squirm away. There's no way you're going to fall out once you're in. It's quite the experience. I heard recently that Tahquitz was doable, but I assume that means in good weather. This isn't good weather... Josh

I drove through Monument in March and it was beautiful. I had the exact same thought that you did. But I have no clue if its climbable. Just got back from the beach here in So. Cal....the rain stopped but it was hella windy. Too bad the person I was with was getting sleepy...:(

Snowing lightly all day in the San Bernardino Mountains above 6000' with several inches in Running Springs and Big Bear. Similar conditions in the San Jacinto Mountains (Tahquitz/Suicide) and San Gabriel Mountains (Williamson Rock). Low tonight in the teens. Warming up tommorow, but probably not enough to be nice in the mountains. Here's a link from Snow Summit Ski Area showing some snow accumulated. http://www.snowforecast.com/californiafcst/bigbearmountain.html Super windy today in the Hi-Desert region with scattered rain and showers. Not the best day for climbing outside. Tahquitz tommorow is probably a really bad idea...try the desert.
