A Piece of El Cap

While hiking around the base of El Cap, I came across a rather huge slab of rock laying flat on the ground about 30 meters from the southeast face. The slab had a bolt and clip drilled into the center.

Wondering what a bolt had any business doing on a piece of horizontal rock so close to the ground, I looked up and noticed that the side of El Cap had a piece missing from its wall and shaped ironically the same as this slab.

I supposed that this piece, once part of a route, had broken away many years ago and naturally moved away from the wall base. Can anyone validate this?

Which part of the wall (route name or nearby name) are you talking about?

Are you talking about a "bolt hanger"?

Is the slab burried? What you are probably seeing is a bolt placed by SAR. Not sure exactly where you're talking about, though.
