Does anyone know how long it takes for a PM to actually be sent? I tried to send 2 messages yesterday and they are still sitting in my outbox...am I missing something here?

I believe (and a mod will probably correct me if I'm wrong) that they will sit in your outbox until the intended recipient logs on, and gets the message.

Yep
If the recipient haven't opened the message,it stays in your outbox till he opens it...
