I am up for Fern Clyfe if others want to go there. I have stayed at GCSP before and it is nice. It has some easy climbing and I want to check out more of the park. I am taking a group of kids there in May and need to scout it out. It is only about 15 min. from the bluffs if I remember right.

In reply to: I will probably stay at Giants City SP and climb mostly at Drapers and Cedar Bluff.

Giant City is a lot further from Cedars and Drapers than 15 minutes. If your climbing at Cedar, Draper, or Jackson and want to stay at a park you should be looking at Ferne. Giant City has a couple of cliffs of its own inside the park. No need to be driving all over Southern Illinois just to camp in luxery and climb. Plenty of that located close to each other. A few hotels in Vienna are fairly cheap, you could probably stay there for a few more bucks than your going to shell out at GC or Ferne.

In reply to: Giant City is a lot further from Cedars and Drapers than 15 minutes. It is 14-15 miles the back way. Might be a lot further if you go back through Carbondale, kick over to the interstate and head south, but the back roads are pretty good and easy to follow. Regardless, I'll check out Fern Clyfe just to see a new place. Thanks.

Most of FC's campsites are a lot more secluded than GC's, although GC does have a few more bluffs to scramble up. Both are nice places to kick back. http://www.lulu.com/content/43068

Good picture, Traddaddy. Where is that section of rock? I wandered around the park and hit the spots listed in the RDB here, but didn't see that section, I don't think.

I think it's in the Devil's Standtable area. It;s called the gulley and goes at a rating of 5. :D There's good 5.8 around there called 'one, two, three'. Draper's is the bomb though... http://my.lulu.com/content/48653

well, my trip to the red to meet up with xcel360 got turned upside down. i was almost to louisville and called to check on things at home (since i left right from the fire station) and discovered that i had a pretty sick son. i had to do an about face to help with matters in bloomington. my apologies to xcel...hope you had a great week. i will be at the red this friday and saturday morning with the whole redpoint posse. should be an adventure. sportster, give me a jingle...we can set up things for sunday. greenspace, where are you bro? easton, keepin' the kids in line? a_l, what's up down south? r.r.

I only had to yell a little today, so far. Enjoy your trip, and find me a good 5.5 trad lead....I am fiending for more after the last trip.

Ron: Group to IL May 30-June 2. The weekend of the 8th may have to be another scouting trip to So IL if I don't spend enough time there this weekend, but I will definitely try. Sportster: I know we are up for it, look me up in June for another trip to the Red. I have a track invitational the weekend of the 1st, so probably no go if you guys are heading to KY. Green: Consider them broken in. I e-mailed BD and asked about the bent one. They said it was fine, quit being a weenie, bend it back, and go climb something (I am paraphrasing of course) Climb safe gentlemen! Sam

It used to be that you could climb it from Nov - Apr, but that was years ago. I'm not sure you can even climb it all anymore....Powers would know.

I went down to climb it this fall but people told me it was closed for good. They said its not 5.4 anymore either... it's more like a 5.7 now that some tree fell down? :?
