As mentioned in a previous post, Northern California now has a new Access Fund Rep assigned to Auburn. Alison is a law student going to UCSF and is motivated to see things moving forward. With the transfer of Auburn to her care, she has initiated several new inquiries to access as well as having some already upcoming meeting scheduled with the SRA as well as BoR. Some as soon as May 25th. One of the paths forward is collecting and consolidating a list of people who are interested in helping trying to secure access to Auburn. This may include, trail work, volunteer work, attending meetings, writing letters, etc... One benefit of being on the list is that I perdiodically send out topos and updates concerning the climbing at Auburn. For those not familiar with Auburn. Click HERE for more info. With almost 50 established sport routes (from 5.7-5.13+), and potential for A LOT more including multipitch potential, Auburn represents the Bay/Sacramento's best sport climbing within a large radius. Not too mention, the area has established trails, porta-potties, and the Middle Fork of the American River as part of the surroundings. Even water bouldering directly over the river with a splash and dunk as the reward for falling off. If you are interested in getting out to this place and securing its access. Please "bump" (meaning reply even if it just says "bump" which will keep this post echo'd to the front page) this post as well as email me at: Roughit3@aol.com I will add your email to the list of contacts. This list will be used to keep everyone updated on the current status of access negotiations, restrictions, meetings, etc. Another benefit is that i also will start spreading the word about other new Northern California sport climbing developments through this list. The only thing I ask is that if you sign up, please be willing to do your part when we need people to help with meetings, trail work, letter writting, etc.. Its an exciting time for Sacramento/Bay Area sport climbers right now! The opening of Auburn, if we can get it, would mean a new area for everyone to get out to that has a lot more to offer than many of the other smaller local areas. This is your chance to make a difference! Also, if you haven't already, please join the Access Fund and on your App/online form etc... write somewhere that you are specifically concerned with Access at Auburn State Recreation Area outside of Sacramento. The more the big wig AF'ers see "Auburn" the more large scale "clout" we can bring to the table.

A little teaser/taste of what is already developed.
In reply to: Auburn has an amazing selection of routes of all grades with potential for A WHOLE LOT MORE!: 5.7 X 3 5.8 X 6 5.9 X 4 5.10a X 1 5.10b X 6 5.10c X 6 5.10d X 1 5.11a X 2 5.11b X 2 5.11c X 1 5.11d X 1 5.12a X 2 5.12c X 2 Projects X 5 V3 Traverse X 1 TOTAL: 43 Lines Excerpt 41- Swahili 5.10b > 2 Pitches < / (7b's - P1 / 7b's - P2) *** P1 (10a)- Up the slab avoiding loose rock on either side to some technical sections then to a grass ledge. From here head left then up directly under the overlap (crux), then large jugs to the anchor at mid height of the wall. P2 (10b)- From the belay up and right following the shallow groove till a funky crux reaching the chossy break. From here better rock and sweet moves to the anchor. 42- Black Rhino 5.8 >2 Pitches < / (8 b's - P1 / 6b's - P2) ** P1 (5.8)- Start up chossy ramp to short 2 bolt vert. wall. After this follow large ramp system trending right to the 1st belay. P2 (5.8)- From the belay, go up and left across dirty break, then up steeper wall on sweet holds to a short crux traverse across a horizontal crack. Then pull a bulge on jugs and follow some cool cracks and jugs to the top of the wall. Look at the number of the routes to get an idea of what we are talking about here :) Real sport climbing all the way down to a moderate grade. Well bolted with threadable anchors. MULTIPITCH too boot! Doesn't exist in Bay/Sac Area does it??? Or does it :) It won't be legitimate unless people pitch in and we start gearing up for a serious show of support for the area.

In reply to: 16- Human Oddity 5.12a *** / 10 bolts This route was left unbolted and undone from a previous party. We cleaned it up and found an absolute gem. Long, sustained, juggy, with some steep sections, this route is sure to please everyone! Use a long draw on the bolt to the left of the chunky roof. Probably the single best 12a I have ever been on! Damn I am whipping myself into a frenzy and I have climbed out there a bunch :)

80 people signed up so far. Would like to have at least a hundred! :) Even if your not directly in contact or climbing distance for Auburn, feel free to do sign up and help fight for access even if it is just as part of a possible letter campaign/etc... Who knows, you just may be in Sacramento at some time and want to climbing out here as well!
