This is just a reminder to anyone planning on climbing in the Red in the near and foreseable future. BEFORE you go climb in the Southern Region (Arena, Oil Crack and a few others) check the rrgcc.org web site for access restrictions. The coalition is still in legal proceedings with Charmagne Oil about access rights, roads, etc and ANY usage of the area while people are trying hard to maintain peace and a healthy relationship does nothing but hurt the entire process and cause. If you are unsure if an area is open to climbing, look it up.

In reply to: The coalition is still in legal proceedings with Charmagne Oil about access rights, roads, etc and ANY usage of the area The area in question is only part of the southern region, the Murray Property... now called the Pendegrass-Murray Recreational Preserve. The whole area is open to climbing but there is a temporary parking lot by the motherload where you will have to walk to the crags. Also, the Arena, Oil Crack and everything In Between is open to climbing BUT the area around the base of the cliffs is on private property so to "legally climb" there, you will need to rap in. You can still climb in 98% of the Red River Gorge which covers over 1200 routes.
