Two weeks ago, it was still frozen and 108 was closed (long story there).

I was going to go there Thursday, the 18th I think. Needless to say, it snowed there, 2 feet I hear, Wednesday. Thursday it was suppose to be 22-42 degrees. I went to Pinnacles isntead. The valley was beautiful last weekend though.

i live on the eastside, however just looking at the relative conditions i'd wait a little while before heading out there. its probably got some fresh snow along with some cool temps. the snow will melt fast if it keeps warming up as it has over here.

Campground is still closed, as of 4/26/02.
The Leap looks totally climbable, still a bit of snow at the base, but no biggie.
The "back road" to the east wall is washed out, I know because I had to get my truck towed out last friday, then it started to rain...
We did not get to climb, but will be back in a week or so.

It's snowing up here. Hold off a little while, unless you like the alpine feel of wet and slushy rock...
AnNy day now, spring will return.

What's all this about the Leap? You're missing the obvious. I live in Arnold at 4000ft, no snow. I've been bouldering in Bear Valley for weeks (7000ft). Only the nrothern exposures have any serious snow. What's my point? GO TO SUGARLOAF! Southern exposure, climable in winter. At 5000ft, I'll bet it's been climable all winter. Even considering the WX we're getting today, let it dry a day and go for it! Truly great climbing to boot. Get your racks and rock! I'd love to join you but I'm on the injured reserve.

fyi. SuperTopo.com has jsut released a very sweet new Lover's Leap guidebook in PDF format. The site also now has a great new Lover's Leap area page with loads and loads of helpful beta for this crag.
