Not a good idea. If you can't finish it or down lead it, put in a second piece and lower or rap off the equalized anchor. Maybe with a keyholed stopper or some bombproof piece that can't shift you might consider lowering off of one, but in general the extra $10 for another stopper is cheap life insurance.

Uh, would you rap off of it? No? Then don't lower off of it where the forces are even higher! I'm not really one to talk, I've rapped off of shifting #3 stoppers and lived to tell about it. But that doesn't mean you should. (and besides, the crappy little nuts were backed up by rock-solid cams in most cases, we just sent the fat guy down first with the pack and if the nut held, BOOYAH, the cam came with us, if not, *shrug* my life's worth $75 and so is yours, right?)
