I don't think there are any companies that make just vegan-friendly shoes, but there are many vegan-friendly shoes out there. Look for shoes that are just synthetics, there are lots of choices. 5.10 Anasazi Velcros, V10s....all synthetic. Most brands have a least one model that's totally synthetic. The Mad Rock Mugen is another all synthetic shoe, and it's one of the cheapest shoes on the market (and a great value).

I don't mean to bash madrocks, I like hteir shoes, but I do not believe that they are vegan. I didn't know about montrail, that's interesting. Evolve is the way to go if you want a line of vegan shoes.

Keep in mind that to be vegan, the shoe must not contain any plastic or petrochemical components. These use the ancient remains of baby dinosaurs. :D

Vegan shoes? You guys are serious?

Bunch of granola munching, tree-hugging druids. Buy a pair that performs well. Period. I swear, I'm gonna start a new shoe company that uses allegator skin uppers, shoe laces made from pig entrails, and have a heel cup made from gecko paws. The top of the line models will be lined with baby seal fur. My promo catch line? "All animals used in the production of our shoes were first slowly BBQ'd and basted with the finest herbs and spices."

BUY CARNIVOROUS!!!

I'm not a vegan, but props to those who stick with what they believe in. Some people believe it's wrong to use animals in any form so let them to their beliefs.

A huge percentage of the shoes on the market have switched to low-stretch and breathable synthetics rather than leather. Buying a vegan friendly shoe is much easier now than it was in the past. The 5.10 Anasazi shoes are one of the best performing shoes on the planet and they've all gone to synthetic uppers (excluding the Moccasym).

Meat is Murder.
Dairy is Rape.

(doesn't stop me from consuming both though)

Heh. When I read the topic, I couldn't help thinking about shoes made *out* of vegans. How unvegan is that?

Aren't all you vegans worried about hurting the plants as well? They are legitimate life forms too dontcha know...

And I thought this thread was going to be about using vegans to make gear...

1) Scoop out their heads, tie a prussic cord through the eye sockets, and you have a nice firm chalk bag.

2) Use thier bones in liue of hexes and bolts (forearms make great anchors).

3) Braided intestines that have been properly dried in the sun, are an awesome and inexpensive substitute for a cordelette.

4) Drowned vegans' lungs are great for carrying fluids (and we already know they won't leak).

5) Teeth make great jewlry, which can either be sold at roadside markets, or traded away at your next trip to Burning Man.

The possibilities are simply staggering, and you can even involve the whole family in these creative activities...

LOL!!!

those would be real vegan shoes! I love my leather shoes, but to each his own, man is above cows on the food chain so they're open season. And I bet there were never any vegan cavemen!

hey ed, you need to add some baby seal fur trim around the top of those aligator climbing shoes, and mink heads to the front, the teeth would pass for front spikes for ice climbing :) the true all around shoe.

LOL

Did you know that even "vegan friendly" synthetic shoes are made from materials that are derived from decayed corpses of literally millions of animals? As a matter of fact, so is the gas that you put in your car....

If I somehow manage to make entirely plant-fiber based climbing shoes, what would you be willing to pay for them?

Five Ten has a ton of vegan shoes, just check the tech specs on their website- it says what the uppers are made out of.

and guys, even if you love killing animals and eating them, this post was not started to push our [vegan] views on you. Theres no reason to push your omnivorous views on us- If someone started a BBQ thread, i would just ingore it, not post annoying vegan propoganda and give the posters shit. if you want to debate at least do it politely, you're just being assholes.
