Hey I am in the desperate needs of a climbing partner to head to So. Ill. first off the drive is around 5.5 hours and second it would be neat to have someone to split gas with instead of paying the $40 each way by myself. I want to go anytime during the week this coming week May 9-14. Any takers let me know now, if not I am off alone! Laters, Josiah

I was there yesterday, and connected w/ several others. There is a solo guy from Chicago that is camping there just looking for others to rope up with, so if you see his orange Mountain Hardware tent, just stop in and say "HI".

Is that the guy who chopped up an entire tree for firewood because he didn't have a partner that day?

I won't be there but I have recently. Look out for snakes. I have seen them on every trip in So Ill. Have fun and climb smart.

I hope he leaves some (if not most) of that wood behind for others to use later...

That really wasn't that much wood, considering he was planning on staying for several days... Between cooking and general campfire, it would be about right for a 4-5 day trip. Now, if you go back next week only to discover the forest is missing; I did get his phone number!

The sound of chainsaws might cause our beloved slack-jawed choss to fall apart, which is basically held together with bondo and wrigley's. When the roadside kickers like me can't climb we like to hand out a**-kickings to city folk. It's better to just leave the chainsaws at home. Ha!

But seriously, my friends and I just collect firewood along the road before we get to the camping area. Last time we found some really good cedar, which was a nice treat because it's so fragrant. The campground has been really picked over, and it's depressing to see that so many live branches have been broken off for the sake of fires that people could probably have done without. I'm stepping off the soapbox...
