I just want to post this message in the hope that the sick shites, whom, by leaving their trash lying around and messing with the floodlights, single handedly caused our climbing rights at Serenitas, South Africa to be revoked, will read this and realise what they have done. Serenitas' routes are great for keeping fit in the city of Bloemfontein, South Africa. We don't have a lot of climbing possibilities here, but what we have we use, protect and respect. These apes (not part of the local climbing group) apparently pitched up at the crag and went about making a noise, strewing garbage all over the place, and later moving the spotlight so that they could climb after dark. To get the real picture you must understand that the crag is situated within a Retirement Village, a home for the aged, etc. Now we have to communicate with the owners/directors just to be able to get back onto rock. Just because some asshole decided to disrespect everything we, and the climbers before us, worked for. "We" (the local climbers) have been climbing at Serenitas for the past 10 years. Even before the retirement village was built. No respect and bloody selfish!!! Check out the route descriptions for Serenitas in the South Africa -section. breathe stone R C

It is a sad state of affairs. And why is it that when these things happen the perpetrators alwys seem to think they are the coolest. They think a are quite hot because they got something right. Well, I screw up a lot, and it's nothing to be proud of. It's when these idiots (name calling again) can't do the 5.4 that they get bored and stuff things up for others. The negotiations are going well. We are opening our bouldering cave on Saturday and we are working on a pass system for the cave that will also allow restricted access to Serenitas as well. Hope it all works out. breathe stone R C

How are things going with re-opening your crag? It's really hard once it's been disrespected once to convince people to trust again. Good luck and keep us posted, if there's anything that can be done to help, let us know! Rochelle [ This Message was edited by: rplocek on 2002-05-30 10:42 ]
