He's not likely to answer here - try asking on supertopo instead.

Not his foot, his leg. He apparently broke the tibia and fibula. These are the two bones that connect the knee to the foot. It is very common to break both at the same time.

ouch. that hurts.

info... in slovene "whistle" or "piscal" actually means "tibia". go figure the confusion in our anathomy class

actually it helped me rember the bones better (whistle is not fibula).

It's being discussed in this thread on ST.com:
http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?m=38016&f=0&b=0

I am sure he will be treated better both here and on ST.com in regards to his fall than he himself treated Amber over on ST.com when she wrote about her fall and injury in Zion recently.

I think you misunderstand brutha... I don't think anyone deserves to be hurt, and it's bad stuff when it happens regardless of the reasons why it happened or to whom.

I mearly said that he would be treated better than he treated her when she fell and was injured, do you disagree with that statement ???

Barring objective hazards like rockfall, weather, etc... It always comes down to pilot error when someone gets injured, as climbers fall all the time but don't get severely injured. Either they messed up, misjudged, or set bad pro... Even if it's pilot error, nobody deserves to be hurt. They should learn from it and share it so others can learn from their mistakes. Agreed ???

.. i agree that nobody deserves to get hurt ..

.. and i agree that accidents are things we can all learn from ..

.. i'm just pointint out how quickly you jumped in to remind everyone of something negative about pete .. -- bury the hatchet already.

.. its only been about 5 days since his accident.. and no formal report of the accident has been made from the eye witnesses .. when that happens you and others can comment and criticize the events ...

.. i'm bummed that pete got hurt -- and hope he recovers quickly ..

Wouldn't comment or criticize in this case...

That's exactly my point. People make mistakes, and shit happens. When it does, we need to show a bit of compassion and/or empathy and not tear them apart when they get injured.

My comment was meant to say that I was sure people on both sites would show him the compassion that anybody deserves if they get hurt.

Again, I think you misunderstood, or maybe I just didn't word it well. I was also trying to give more info to the users here by linking the thread on ST.com.

In reply to:

Why? Why should we 'bury the hatchet'?

If someone is an asshole, I'm going to continue treating them like an asshole ... whether they are in a hospital bed or traipsing happily up a trail.

Treating someone differently because they are injured is hypocritical, pointless, and just plain weak.

You reap what you sow.

In reply to:

What does that have to do with the issue at hand? Rrradam wasn't commenting on or criticising the accident ... he mentioned (and only mentioned) Pete's reaction to Amber's accident and he mentioned it in relation to the flack that Pete has taken in this thread. So far, it has not been nearly as bad as I had thought it would be.

Maybe I'm heartless, but I don't think that the fact that a person is a climber automatically entitles them to my sympathy when they get hurt. My sympathy is reserved for people I know and respect ... and, to be honest, total strangers who haven't earned my disrespect. Pete doesn't fall into either category.

I suppose I'll now have to endure a bunch of flames from people who think I should feel sorry for Pete ... I don't ... and I won't ... but if you'd like to waste your time ... flame away people.

Edit: Bah. In the time it took me to write this post, ricardol and Adam have come to terms and now I look like a jackass.

Oh well. :)

This actually made me laugh pretty loudly. Well put, and you don't look like a jackass either, as I see your point of view. Even though I may not agree with it, it still has merit. At least you had the state of mind to edit this in, so props to you.

Since we already have a thread discussing this over in the Injuries&Accidents forum I'm going to lock this thread. PM me if you think I'm missing a reason to keep it going here in the aid forum. Thanks.

Here's the link to the other thread:
