Mild non bleach detergent, daisy chain your rope, and throw it in the washing machine with cold water. Hang in the shade to dry. Works great.

I've always thrown (placed) my ropes in a front loading spin-type commercial machine (like the ones you'd find at the laundrymat). Don't use your typical top-loading home washing machine with the agitator in the middle: they beat your rope to death and you could end up with your rope hopelessly tangled around the mechanism; front loaders don't have that issue. I don't daisychain them, never had a problem with tangles; tried it once and it just came apart in the wash anyway. I use the large load size for as much water as possible (warm wash, cold rinse), the gentle cycle and about half the recommended amount of Woolite. I hang them over the doors in my house to dry (just drape them back and forth over the top). Been doing this for years; the problem is that I tend to wash all my ropes at once and end up with several ropes draped all over the house for a few days — drives my wife nuts.

twolf's got it right.
Thats what i do, except i throw my rope in a big mesh bag to keep it from possibly snagging around the edges of the drum, etc.
Also woolite is good i hear, but i use nothing.

I wash my rope every time I notice its too dirty (that damages the core), and I only use cold water and the Beal rope brush, passing the rope two or three times trough leaves my rope looking like new, asn if that is not enough I leave it in a tub with cold water for one or two hours that loosens the dirt, and then repeat the brush process.

Does anyone know if using Woolite or similar "gentle" detergent affects the water resistance of "dry" ropes? Just wondering...

I just rinsed 2 of mine out in a 5 gallon bucket today by hand. The first load of water turned black, the second gray. Use soap for better deep cleaning. The rope cleaning brush things work really well too.
I wouldn't use detergent as it acts like an "anti-dry" coating. So rope wash or plain soap or woolite would probably be a better choice.
