My friend keeps saying to me how easy and what a waste of time rockclimbing is yet he has never tried it. I tell him that it's a great work out/keeps ya fit and is extremely fun!! But he just tells me that its not a 'real' sport. I suggested he come for a climb with me but he just want so yes...Sooo how do ya spose I get him to come check out rockclimbing? I really want him to see what a push on the body rockclimbing can be! HELP!

option 1: buy a gun, load, release safety pin option 2: rope up your friend and take him climbing. I'll bet in both cases, youre friend will be climbing soon 8^) and he'll enjoy it

Heh, anyone who doesn't think climbing as a sport and as a waste of time is dangerously insane and needs to be locked up in a white, padded room. A white padded room with rock climbing holds on the walls

Why even try? Have him just meet you in the bar after his Football game is over. That is if you can get them off the coach. "If you have to ask the question why people climb, you probably won't understand the answer" Only five months till Ice climbing season begins!!! YEH!!!

Climbing sucks. You should take your friend's advice and quit.

In reply to: My friend keeps saying to me how easy and what a waste of time rockclimbing is yet he has never tried it. And you care why, exactly?
In reply to: I tell him that it's a great work out/keeps ya fit and is extremely fun!! But he just tells me that its not a 'real' sport. It is. It does. Define "sport". Most people think "sport" == team game, like football, soccer, etc. Those are not sports in my book. They're nothing but games, and most of the people who are interested in 'em are nothing more than couch potatoes who watch on TV.
In reply to: I suggested he come for a climb with me but he just want so yes...Sooo how do ya spose I get him to come check out rockclimbing? Don't. Climbing doesn't need him. You shouldn't need him on the rock, either. If he doesn't get it, he doesn't get it. Move on. Fewer people on the rock is good. More is bad. And if this is a troll, it's a stupid one. Rob

Guys or people in general who are intimidated by the fact that I like to climb aren't worth my time and they can stay home on the couch. I'm supportive of the people who are curious and want to learn or understand what I like about climbing but those that are insulting about what I do for fun can kiss my ass. Leave the dolt at home and find new friends to climb with.

AHHHH, reminds me of myself back 6 years ago. Had a friend that rock-climbed all the time. Looked at his pictures on the wall and just couldn't understand why anyone would want to climb a rock wall. I told him that many times. During my divorce process I decided to join my friend on a "Noob" day. Mainly did it to get out of the house at the time. After that trip, I have been hooked ever since. No sense in pushing the friend. If they want to try it, they will eventually ask to join you. :D

you should tell him that he needs to get a live, he (and others) should be open to other things, tell him that he can't put an opinion in something he doesn't know. and if he refuse's say that he is a coward, that's how i get people into climbing, they don't want to be a coward.

You don't have to make him climb. He doesn't care and he probably says it so much because YOU do. Drop it, sport or no sport tell him it is something that makes you happy. Once I was talking about climbing and a friend said "yeah, I climb too" I got interested "really, where, for how long, indoor, outdoor?" He just cut me "Dude, I was being sarcastic, I have more things to do ON MY COMPUTER than climb" I was going to get something back, but I didn't . It took me a while to BELIEVE that he was making fun of ME with THAT sentence. Then I moved on with the conversation to something eles. I realized that I like climbing and he enjoys nerding all day.
