A dollar sign? Why not a P or a biner or something. Something less, well..... less greedy looking. In a thread where several partners post, there's a line of dollar signs running down the page. Poor choice.

Why show it at all? Looking at a person's profile tells that they are a partner. Why add an additional graphic to the jumble already beneath the username. Is a partner's contribution to a thread more valuable than a non-partner's?

People like partners who pay dues and donate to the site help keep it up and running. Part of having it displayed may help everyone else to look at that and say to themselves "Huh, maybe I should donate to the site too. After all, I do spend the majority of my day sucking down bandwidth rather than working like I should." Sites like this thrive on donations and member contributions... those people who help out should get some recognition and the best way to display it is on the forums. Realistically you're not going to check the profile of everyone you see on the forums so it's not really a valid argument that it's displayed there as well.

And it wasn't displayed anywhere until these images were put in place. It's a good way to be recognized for contributions. Beats nothing.

Don't the people steering the site already know who the partners are?

Yeah, i was a little suprised at the dollar sign, and am glad it was changed. the hands aren't bad, but i kinda do like the atc idea: really reinforces the idea of "supporting" without being as pretensious as the bling bling $$$ and without being as ... silly as the clasped hands. recognition good, idea that "members" are more valueable than "non-members" bad. eck. I'm glad i'm not in charge of playing that balancing act. coylec

In reply to: In reply to: Don't the people steering the site already know who the partners are? It's rather more useful to be able to tell at a glance. When 3-5 people per day sign up, it simply does not make any sense to try and keep track manually. Besides, it's free advertising for the program. I'm quite certain you can deal with the intrusion; the general consensus expressed in the partners' forum is that having the icon to recognize our patrons is positive. (One reason that partners' opinions are generally more valuable to the site is that, invariably, they focus on things that actually matter rather than b---- about minutiae to see their typing skills on the Intarweb. I know not why.) So, where, other than in the partners' forum are these threads about the direction in which the site is moving? Since only partners are allowed to post in the partners' forum, it is a reasonable assumption to make, that everyone posting in the partners' forum..... is a partner.

S&Q hardly constitutes discussion on the direction in which the site is going.

In reply to: S&Q hardly constitutes discussion on the direction in which the site is going. Really now? Suggestions don't influence the site? That's news to me. You're really beginning to slip into obvious bleating at this point.

In reply to: Suggestions & Questions For minor site Suggestions and Questions, post them here, and we'll try to respond quickly. Partners Private forum for Rockclimbing.com Partners to discuss the direction and new features for Premium (paying) Members. I would have to say, You may be one of the small handful of site users that are actually trying to pay attention to our forum descriptions and post in teh right spot by quoteing those 2 descriptions. good-onya As for just where to post a non-partner idea...for the past 3 years everyone has been posting in the S&Q forum. our partners forusm is only a little over a year old and really has only in the past number of months been getting active posts. As an admin and member of the site who is tyrign to help direct its growth (and guessing from tlakign to many other admins) teh S&Q forum is one that we regulary look at since most of these types of questions will be asked in there...along with the Partners section. *Note to non-partners= Keep posting your suggestions in teh S&Q forum as we do read your ideas and will try to address them there. *Note to partners=Keep posting in the Partners forum as we do read your ideas and will try to address them. Good happy medium for All? 8^)

Hey pirate, good questions mate. You have actually highlighted what is actually happening around here and that is that this site is an ever evolving monster. The forum descriptions were written a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, well I`m lieing about the galaxy far away bit but you get the drift and I love Star Wars. Anyway from time to time we need to look at the forum descriptions and decide whether they need updating to reflect whether they reflect what it is that we are actually doing in those forums. This discussion shows that indeed the S&Q forum description needs updating as in fact that forum is used for more than just minor site questions and suggestions. I think the Partners forum description adequately represents what we are trying to achieve in there. I`m happy to allow for discussion so that we can get a better forum description though.
