hello all,

excuse my ignorance but is there any climbing in BAJA California. I am going to be travelling down to La Paz and was hoping to be able to do some climbing or bouldering on the way before we hop over to Mexico proper and drive to Potrero Chico.

Cheers

P

If you''re driving, the boulders of Catavina are hard to miss. Josh type rock and suessian trees make for a nice break from the road . Above all have fun!!!

Catavina will be very hot in summer, unless you get there in the early morning. There are no other significant areas en route to La Paz. La Mision south of Rosarito Beach (between Tijuana and Ensenada, off Mex. Hwy 1) has some sport climbing on basalt. And a cool Pacific breeze.

If you are taking the ferry out of La Paz, you will miss some granite at Cabo San Lucas. There is some rock at Los Frailes, on the Sea of Cortez between La Paz and CSL. Neither place is worth going out of your way for, but perhaps if you take the ferry out of CSL it would be worth the stop.

Thanks for the info,

we're primarily surfing on that leg so maybe just a bit of bouldering, save the fingert tips for later in the trip.

all the best
