Is the implication here that Oceania should be included with Australia, so that Carstenz Pyramid is th relevant summit rather than Kosciusko?

How nice it must be to have hookups:rolleyes:
It is an incredible feat to pull it off, but imagine how many people are capable of doing it as well if they had family family/peer/logistical support.
Me, I can hardly find a decent person to hit up the day crag with, let alone do any of the seven summits eventhough I know I could if I did a bit of training.

I've seen four different ways to count the "seventh" summit.
Australia mainland, Kosciusko, 7316 feet.
Australia Heard Island, Big Ben, 9006 feet.
Oceania, Carstensz Pyramid (New Guinea), 16023 feet.
Australasia, Puncak Jaya (Indonesia), 16502 feet.

Dick Bass. Went with the Australia option. In '85. See his book, "Seven Summits". Then Gerry Roach. You want to see an impressive peak baggin' resume? First to do top ten in North America (and still the only person?).

put in his situation, I assume MOST of the people here would, considering that they would not have to work due to funding, and get to travel the world..
"gee, lemme think... sit where I am, working all day, get to climb occationally at the local crag or mountain range...
or spend years training in the top climbing spots, not working, get funded to travel the world and climb the best climbs in the world... "
what would YOU rather do ?!?!?
and it's true, alot of people could accomplish his feat, but VERY few have the funding to do so, or drive to GET the funding... probably the only reason he got funding was because he was so young and was going to get this huge amount of recogicion... (like being on letterman show and getting featured in mag's)...
it is still awsome that he accomplished this !! something I can only dream of...
