So I plan on spending a month or two in Joshua Tree in January. And I have a few questions: 1) How easy is it to get there/get around without a car? I might be able to get a ride there but once I'm there, will I be ok without a car? 2) Food/Water? Is there any water available in the park? Food? Would I have to go to 29 Palms or something to get them? If so, would I have trouble finding someone heading that way to get a ride with them? 3) Weather How climbable is it in winter? Like, in January? Can you really climb easily and not worry about getting too frozen or packing the down jackets or anything? Uhhh... I think that's all. Yeah I know it's a long way off but I need to start compiling my tick list :D Thanks for you help! Tristan

It used to be you would be fine. I am guessing that you would still be fine without a car, but keep a really low profile so they don't throw you out (14 day limit over the winter). (it would really really suck to get thrown out without a car) Definitely bring a down jacket. Generally the climbing is decent that time of year, BUT there can be up to a week or so of miserable (cold, windy, wet) weather. and it will likely get below freezing at night. As long as you are nice, it shouldn't be too hard to get a ride into JT for water and food and such, or at a minimum, send your water bottles with someone else to get filled. There is no water available where you want to be in the park. There is enough climbing within walking distance from Hidden Valley CG that you will not run out.

A car is a good idea. I mean you can stay in aplace like hidden valley for a while but there are so many other places that are a long walk form anywhere. All your food and water must be brought in with you.
