I was wondering if anyone else used the framing around a door to do finger tip pull-ups? Its a great way build up strength. Havent broken one yet either!

yeah. We had a competition at work the other day to see who could do a chin-up on the smallest thing. Besides me, there were 2 other guys that could do the door frame. It then went to some aluminum window molding that was probably 3/4 of a cm deep, and that's where it ended for all 3 of us.

Every time I walk through a door. All of the door frames in my house have dirty fingerprints all over them, something that my parents greatly appreciate  .

When I lived in the dorms at UMN the door frames were freakin' stout! Better yet, they had about a 3/4-1 cm edge on them. Perfect for pull-ups, but enough to do more stuff on them (hangs, etc). Also a good way to get strange looks from folks in the hall when executing front levers, as all they'd see is a pair of legs sticking straight out across the hall.

Some hangboard training regimens recommend against ever doing pullups on crimpers. The belief is that pullups on crimpers are too stressful and the chance of injury too high, so any pulling on crimpers should be reserved for when you are climbing.

I think it is the funnest way to impress non-climbers. I pumped out five at work one day, and no one else could even hang. it was great.

Mine are nowhere near as impressive, they're almost an inch across so it's just like a normal chinup. I'm trying to get horizontal for a more impressive looking trick :P Speaking of which can anyone hold themselves completely horizontal (arms above head)? I've seen one guy do it but then again he's a genetic monster :)

My house is pretty old and the door frames are pretty beefy, so I haven't ripped one off yet... but they'll come down eventually.. that'll be fun to explain to my landlord! We did set up a sweet door frame & base-boards traverse though... you start outside, climb in through the milk box (about 4 feet up and 12X14" ) then traverse the kitchen counter/base boards into the hall where there's a frame-to-frame campus. Then across to the other hallway where you climb door-frames up into the attick.

I've seen one guy do it but then again he's a genetic monster :) Teddy, you talking about the move commonly called the "flag"? I can do that, use to perform it in a gymnastics shows for kids. It takes strength, yes, but I'm certainly no genetic freak. I'm at work at the moment :( but I'll post a picture when I get back home. As far as pullups on the door frame, I have yet to 'wow' anyone with this trick. I always thought it was fairly easy? Guess not for some.

In reply to: We did set up a sweet door frame & base-boards traverse though... I did something like this last year in my dorm. There was some technical steming (across a hall) and smedging (smear/edge) on the base boards. The tops weren't sqaure. As far as doorframe pull-ups. I don't train so no. I have tried them in the gym with abouut five of climbing friends and only two could do them.

The door frames at my apartment all seem too weak to be constantly doing pull ups on them.

Done it. Try doing a flip while doing it. You know, instead of hanging there or doing lots of pull ups, use your abs and bring your feet up and through your arms and then drop down. Careful that you do not lose your grip on your door jam before you complete the stunt or you could land on your neck or head. You might try a spotter at first. Really cool when it is done, sure to wow people at parties.

At my school, some of the frames get bigger than an inch. Instead of calmly walking through doorways, I would get a few steps worth of a start, launch into a bellyflop position, snag the doorframe, and shoot myself through the doorway, bending over backwards to land on my feet. Chicks dig it. ;) Principals, however, don't appreciate gymnastic feats at all. :(

what a silly question. as a climber it is your born duty to molest every door frame in sight. touch them as you walk by, practice crimps on them as you stand under one while talking to a friend, and do as many possible pullups without rippin the frame off the wall. it isnt something you necessarily mean to do, you fingers are just drawn to door jams as a climber. so door jam on...
