Well, it's gettin' about time for the 3rd Annual AZ Gathering! For all those looking for info about the gathering, everything is listed in this post! The rest of the thread is more or less just friendly banter. (And lots of talk about Geritol. Trust me, don't bother. It's a scaaaary thread.) FYI ~ There will NOT be signs posted at any of the turnoffs as there were last year, so remember to print out the directions before you leave. Where: Flagstaff, AZ. If you're flying in to Phoenix, PM wage22. She's coordinating pickups and transport to Flag. If you want to offer a ride up to anyone coming in, please contact her as well. If you plan on picking a friend up, we don't need to know about it  If you need a place to crash on Thursday night before heading up to Flag, PM me. When: Labor Day Weekend Fri, Sept. 3rd - Monday, Sept. 6th Camping: Fay Canyon. Directions from Phoenix: Take I-17 North until just before Flagstaff. Exit Lake Mary Road (#339) and take a right approx. 3.2 miles to Forest Road 867, just before the first cattle guard. You'll notice the "Camping and Campfires Prohibited" sign. No worries. We are camping just beyond the restricted area. Proceed down this road until it makes a large dog-leg turn to the right. At this turn there is a huge parking and camping area. A normal two wheel drive passenger car can make it to this point with no problems--as long as you steer around the major ruts in the road--and as long as the road is not real muddy. If you need to need further directions....let me know. See weather averages for Flag here Who: All are welcome (non-AZ'ers included)! See list below for who's comin' What: Sport- the Pit http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=23931 Bouldering - Priest Draw (across the street) http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=14674 or Kelly Canyon (10 minutes away) http://www.rockclimbing.com/...mp.cgi?Detailed=6455 Trad - Paradise Forks (20 minutes away). http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=18131 Click the pics for more info on the area and the photos... We had so much fun the first year, figured Flag would be a great place to have it again. What's it all about? Well... Erica DOES know how to flatter me with her choice of pix... :D I'm in like Flynn. Just lemme pencil it in *scritch scritch* You really can't go wrong with that Flagstaff limestone or basalt (the Overlook could be fun too). The dacite, I could do without, but that's besides the point ;) Lemme throw this out, JUST for consideration if nothing else: in keeping with floating around the state, if anybody wanted to have the gathering in Tucson this year, well, I wouldn't mind. hehe. Lemmon is scattered but can be worked with. There's the Stronghold too. Any strong opinions for Tucson, speak up ;) That said, I am totally in for a Flag gathering. Who wants to pose for me? Or be the poor soul stuck behind me on the long dirt road into the Forks? mwah ah ah  I WILL climb with Erica! Hells yes!

In reply to: I'll be there!! It should be a great time judging from the last one we had in Flag! Oh, good times. Except for my dog. And my choice of guests. heheheheh. I'm better now! Count me in, plus tucsonalex. Kole (The Guy In The Prow Pic) may be there, depending on his tweaked finger. I also expect a presence from epic_ed, curt, jonapprill, ford, and the other big-dawg AZ miscreants.

Hey Now! My publicist says I can go, so count me in for at least one badly behaved miscreant. Might have room for a second person in Ford's Dodge. Gas fare waived (as usual) if passenger is female and can make me laugh. (Leaving from PHX Friday, might have to come back Sunday) Leaving momma's loyal killer (the mighty Sandable Dawg) at home. btw, Hillary, you're now up to number 3 on the inheritence list, bceause ms Dawgster LIKES you. Hey, Erica... how was your Colorado trip? Mine was everything mountaineering is supposed to be. We had it all, bad weather, being stranded, car trouble, and the pics are amazing. ---Ford--- Holiness to the Ford!

I'm in!! Labor Day weekend is traditionally when I head up to Zion, though. With my track record in Zion, it might be a good idea for me to just get back into sport climbing. So -- the "Im in" might be contingent on the weather. If there's a good temp/weather window at Zion it might be hard for me to pass up the opportunity. I'd really hate to miss the AZ gathering, though. We've had a lot of fun at the previous events. AAARRRGGGHHH! Torn again... I'll get back with ya.

well, considering the time i had at the last gathering you can count me in. But Erica, you know that you either need to repeate last years performance and fall out of another tree, or one up that somehow... Mmmmmm Beer.

In reply to: Well... Erica DOES know how to flatter me with her choice of pix... Oh MAN!! (Erica dodges flying lawsuit over unauthorized use of pics) Here's what happened. I says to myself, "Erica, you better credit Hillary in that Kole pic. You know what happened the last time someone used that pic", so then I says, "If I credit her, I'll need to go back and credit ALL the fotogs' pics", so I says "I understand that, but it's.....HILLARY", but then I says, "So what if it is! Screw her!", and then I says, "You're dead". So EVERYONE...THE LAST PIC (which ended up in Climbing Magazine, btw) IN THAT POST IS NOW, AND WILL FOREVER BE, HILLARY CLIMBSOMETHING'S. So I says to myself, "I hope this appeases her. She scares me when she's angry." Heaven help us all....
In reply to: And Erica, the only thing I remember getting whooped at Thin Wall was me on Child's Play  Stuart, you better make it back! If I remember correctly, you cruised Child's Play (directly after I blew chalk in your face, spit in my hands, and said, "Step aside! Lemme show ya how it's done!", after which I proceeded to flail for the next half hour). I need ya as my ropegun. There is a 5.7 TR I'm gonna spank into next Tuesday! Oh YEAH!!
In reply to: well, considering the time i had at the last gathering you can count me in. But Erica, you know that you either need to repeate last years performance and fall out of another tree, or one up that somehow... Mmmmmm Beer. Ahhh, beercanclimber. There's no drinking without him! As far as one-upping my performance last year... I could end up in traction doing that. Can't I repeat my idiocy from the first gathering? I'd much rather one-up my shadow puppet cabaret than falling out of a tree. I mean, Brent had to give me, like, a hour and a half shiatsu massage after tha..... wait. Fall out of a tree? You betcha! Just make sure the zen master comes 8^)
In reply to: MMmmmm, Sounds like fun. I will check the schedule and ask for time off  Right on brutha! Hope to see you there!

That's YOUR DOG?? http://hillarydavis.com/...nimals/sandybone.jpg Excuse me, but did anyone else think that was a snapshot from a lion special on "Wild Kingdom"?? Good lord, are you feeding it the WHOLE elk?? And Colorado was FANtastic! We met up with woodse in Ouray for the 4th and then swung by Mancos and bought a cabin  Anyone like working on houses and needs a place to stay the next 6 months? Gimme a holla  But, I'd love to see the pics of your trip. Stranded? Bad weather? Car trouble? Sounds like a hoot! :P I hope you can make it. Have your people call my people. We'll tawk.

Sandy RULES. I have a bladder-happy, yowling cat that she could make short work of if I coated said cat-snack in teriyaki sauce. And yeah, Sandy tore into that jaw bone. I think she ate the attached teeth too. We didn't wanna yank it out of her mouth  But she's all about the love, really. I won't hurt Erica 8-) Well, unless you want me to *rawr*

How come no one believes the sweet Sandy Dawg is a loveable, gentle, good natured lil house pooch? Nah, really, she's very sweet, but a little overprotective. (I have NO idea where she might have learned to behave like the king of beasts! wink wink nod nod. ) As for feeding her the whole elk... well... :::shrug::: it wasn't goin anywhere. Ed! i post too much? yeah, i jabber like a monkey. 4 years and what... 50 somethin posts. 8^) Too busy CLIMBING to post most of the time. But i digress. Yes, his holiness the Reverend Ford will be there to give good belay. Photos will be permitted, so long as they are NOT used for any unathorized commercial purposes.( I wouldn't want to be seen as endorsing any product i don't whole heartedly believe in! No autographs, please.   ---Ford--- owner and sole proprieter of the Casa de Ford clothing optional recreation facility

So here's the camping situation: Normally we have camped at the Pit. However, this is a holiday weekend and there is no guarantee we can get enough sites there. Anyone from Flag volunteer to go snag the sites on Thursday evening? Even so, we may have people filling up the spots from earlier than Thursday. Any other camping ideas close to the Pit? ~Erica

I have a few favorite spots off the beaten path. Closer to the Overlook, though. It's on BLM land and there are no facilities -- just whatever you bring for camping under the stars. High clearance vehicle recommended for that area. But we could get as many people as we want back there. Ed
