Killfiling is so extreme. What if a person who you have killfiled breaks from character and actually says something interesting, nice or informative? Let's face it, killfiling is tantamount to self-imposed censorship. But currently, the only alternative is to remember the user names of everybody who routinely colors your opinion. Too many names! With that in mind, I suggest the following alternatives, each of which could be denoted by a different color: 1. Newbiefiling. Allows you to identify at a glance posts from people you consider newbies, so that you can cut those people a little slack. You will no longer have to remember the names of everyone you deem a newbie, because, like those people, their posts will have a greenish tint. 2. Gumbifiling. Allows you to identify at a glance posts from people you consider unsafe, so that you can prepare your flames and ready your FOTH 1,487th edition. Gumbifiled users' posts would be red, as if covered in the blood of themselves and others. 3. Toolfiling. The most extreme of the killfile alternatives, toolfiling allows you to identify at a glance posts from people who routinely have only what you believe to be the lamest, most obnoxious drivel to spew forth. Toolfiled users' posts appear on black (devoid of all light) backgrounds with black text. If you so choose, you can read a toolfiled user's post simply by highlighting the text with your cursor. Thoughts? Random emotions? Do you wish you had the ability to toolfile me now?

From what I know, there's something in the works that should help out with this idea . . . kind of like message rating.

May I add one? Mystery-filing. All user names are randomized. This way, you never know who you are talking to. Could be a noob. Could be John Gill. Could be anywhere in between. It might breed more respect (but I doubt it). It might produce better writing (I doubt that too). It WILL breed a lot of "ooops!" Hehe. I just flamed JL... told him stfu noob!!!!1111 Anyway, the fun would be in identifying people by what they write, instead of their sig. DMT

But what will the stalkers ever do with their time now? But in a way I don't like it. I've been known to "stalk" certain users because I think I have a lot to learn from them and their long term experiences. Plus, I just like reading their posts. I killfiled 1 user and it bugged me. I took her off of killfile almost as quickly as I put her on. Even though I don't personally like her, she does add value to the site and some of her posts are pretty informative.

4. Friendfiling. For the obvious and in ??? blue? 5. Girlfiling. So you know who to stalk. Pink. 6. Dudefiling. You can mark who is full of @#$% so brown. 7. Trad/sport/aid/boulderfiling. Take your pick or just stay out of their forums. Yellow for the wossies some of them are. etc. Good idea.

In reply to: What if a person who you have killfiled breaks from character and actually says something interesting, nice or informative? Then I'll miss it. I'm willing to take that chance. I rarely killfile anyone, and when I do it's only after they establish a longstanding pattern of being a tool. If people want me to read their posts, they should think before they type.
In reply to: Let's face it, killfiling is tantamount to self-imposed censorship. No, not really. Killfiling someone is just choosing to ignore them. We do this all the time in real life. For example, I ignore Rush Limbaugh. That's not censorship. I'm not keeping others from listening to him. I just choose not to.

Well, if anyone writes about rugby shirts and painter's pants, we'll know it's dingus. If anyone writes about rugby shirts and painter's pants and desert 5.6s, we'll know it's brutus. If anyone writes about rugby shirts and painter's pants, along with 10 paragraphs of the informative stuff, including mathematical equations, we'll know it's rgold.

Peoples, I really really like this idea. I think we should have a poll set up to vote and see what other people think. It would be cool to see how many users are interested and opposed to this one. Peace.

hey everyone remember when we could all vote a "score" for how much you liked or disliked someone. it was so frikken hilarious because people took it completely personally, and got into voting wars and huge arguments about it. god i miss that. heh. if this new idea takes hold, you KNOW there will be a hottiefile too, out of sheer market demand. this would all be fun. it could go in so many entertaining directions. elvislegs = arrogantbastardfiled

I never killfile anyone, I just put them on my friends list. That way my friends, those I'm stalking and those I hate are all on the same list. Seems simpler that way. The feature I'd like, is a way of telling who is stalking ME! HAHAHA!!!1

In reply to: if it ain't broken -- dont fix it .. -- ricardo properly spoken, the phrase is: "if it ain't broke -- don't fix it" kudos to the message, but if you're gonna use an old addage, don't insult every redneck and hillbilly by adding good grammar and spelling to their proudly mangled "english"
