I'm looking for a partner. I've been climbing for five years or so, mostly in the Gunks w/ a guide. Haven't led yet but almost ready (moving slowly, what can I say). I have all gear and then some. Looking for a partner who wants to climb once or twice a month (at least with me anyway), which realistically is about all I can commit to. I'd like to keep it to top-roping at first until we get comfortable with each other. Safety is paramount, I'm not looking to prove anything. I'm 48 yrs old, with two small children at home. I think I'd like someone in my age range, but not firm on this. I usually rent a car and drive up from Brooklyn. For me, just getting up there and being around other climbers is a big part of the enjoyment. I can provide solid and known climbing references in the Gunks community who can vouch for my attitude and abilities. If you are interested, and live in NYC (not a requirement), maybe we could meet at an indoor wall to check each other out. I realize we're in the sweaty season but I hope to establish a partnership that might last awhile. The best way to contact me is by email - west19@earthlink.net. You will be asked to request addition to my address book; sorry, but the spam was killing me. That's about it - now I know what online dating is like.

You can also try Evan's Partner Service on Gunks.com. It's a for fee service. At first I thought it was silly or wouldn't be effective but I have to agree finally it's a good way to meet people. PS One does have to kiss a lot of toads at the Gunks before getting a partner/friend list built up.
