Is there anyone else out there that actually enjoys a lead fall. If I am climbing indoors on an overhanging route I actually enjoy taking a fall sometimes. Not a huge whipper, just a good eight foot drop. For some reason I think its pretty fun!

I enjoy any fall where I don't get hurt... you can't argue with the pure adrenaline rush you get from a nice fall.

Climb "blood, sweat and chalk" a 5.9+ at franklin rocks in Wva. There is a spot where everyone falls while leading it for their first time. Very sustained 5.9+. The fall was like riding down in a parachute.

Very true, but a clean fall on a solid bolt is enlightening and fun. Enlightening because I won't just let go, and so it kind of teaches me about pump factor.
Has anyone taken a whipper and not realized they have fallen until the ride is almost over? It's like a shock sometimes.

Heck yeah, falling's great, especially on an overhang. Ever screamed out some crazy word on accident while doing it? One time in particular my friend Dan and I were on a real flakey climb and a hold broke on him, he meant to say ROCK but said FROCK, a combination between f**k and ROCK. Pretty funny.

i like falling a good 20 or so feet into a face plant on the rock. that really wakes me up and gets my blood flowing.

I've gotta say I enjoy falling on an overhang with a solid bolt to catch me.
Watching others fall is sometimes better though. I was climbing in the RRG one time another guy at the crag got too pumped out to clip the anchors so he had no choice but to whip. He let his belayer know he was going to fall and then yelled, "One...Two...Three (jumps of the rock) MOTHA' F**CKAAAAAAAA!" He took about a 20-25 footer and was yelling the whole time. Needless to say, everyone on the ground got a good laugh out of that one.

Not yet had the fun of falling on traditionally gear but when it comes to falling on bolts, bring it on!! Great fun, each time I climb a little higher and let out a little more rope before letting go.
Can't beat that adrenaline high 8^)

Love falling. do it when ever I can.
a few weeks ago we out in Lkae Louise and for some reason I just decided to jump not so much fall but actually jump off. so I skipped a bolt then flung my carcass out into the air. YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
nice little 25 footer.
but yeah falling into rocks and stuff isn't really all that much fun, I try to keep it to clean air if I can

I enjoy taking the occassional fall. Especially on a tough route right at or below the crux. The fall will clear your head and I find that rush of adrenaline actually helps in gettin my ass up and over the crux. My first fall was the best. I was on lead in the gym and had never taken a huge fall on lead before (I had lead maybe 2-3 times before that). I was not paying much attention (nor was my experienced belayer) as I was close to the end and skipped the last bolt, as I grabbed the second to last hold, my hand slipped, and I took a good 10-15 foot fall, HOLY SH@T!! Not only what I said but the feeling as well. What a rush! Peace--pcrew

if there's one part of climbing i'm good at it's falling...
enjoyable... hhhmmm not to sure i'm convinced! i've had a few nice falls onto ledges, those weren't fun... nope, not convinced!

The very first time I went lead climbing I was with an instructor who required us each to take "one good lead fall" nothing to bad each about 10ft on overhanging terrain, but I thought it was so much fun I begged him to let me do it again before we moved on to the next lesson! I love getting flight time.

I just took my 3rd trad lead fall last week (15 ft) and I was surprised at how little it effected me. I usually don't clip the last bolt on a gym route and take a little victory ride at the end of the route. It's almost always fun.
I never took a whip on B,S&Chalk. I did take my first lead fall on Bircham's Other. It was a good 20 footer!

This brings up one of the darker aspects of climbing, mostly trad. Once you've been trad climbing for some time, and taken your share of falls without serious injury, you are tempted to see how runout you can go and still walk away, especially when the climbing get's hard and sometimes you can't place pro well. It's not conscious until you are at that point of "make it or fly into uncertainty". "The gear is probably good", you say to yourself, and you're off and up into that ultra focused state only those who push themselves past their fears can get into. Someone once wrote that vertigo is not the fear of falling but the fear of that feeling that you WANT to fall. I recall my falls much more fondly than my successes.

Falling is pretty weird, the longer you go without doing it the more scared you get of it happening until the inevitable happens and off you come. Then it's like fu@# that was awesome, WTF was I worried about.
So long as the protection is bomber and the fall clean, whipping off is heaps fun. The more you do it , the more you become comfortable with it and realise that most of the time it is no big deal. Thats what your gear is for. You will never climb near your potential unless you push yourself to climb until you fall.

I am a similar story to your's. We were climbing some interesting stuff one day and a friend lost his hold and flew out and around another ledge nearby. Another friend on the ground screamed out "Dude, you almost DIED!" It definately lightened the mood, after the climber caught his breath.

when i'm out above a piece, working like mad to make the next move, or trying to get a piece in and i can feel the pump building to failure, your just hanging on for dear life and finally the arms just die, you get that second of realization that your going for a ride, and then that loooooooong freeze frame of time before the rope catches... after that i've just leaned back over the void hanging in my harness and started laughing. what a rush.
nothing like the feeling of knowing youve worked yourself to the bones and had to take the ride, and nothing like knowing that all of your hard earned trad placements and skills of your belayer panned out for the better.

I can't argue. although its nothing like my first lead fall! Remember your first lead fall, now thats something you can't really describe.
