The FA party gives an aid rating to sections they couldn't free. If the hubers established an aid route and gave it a rating of 5.13c/A2, you can bet the "A2" went at harder than 5.13c if someone were to try to free it. But how much harder? Who knows. It could be A2 simply because of chossy rock , or it could be A2 because of an overhanging seam that only took blades.

If I put up an FA of an aid line and rated it 5.9/A3 you can bet that I did everything I could to aid through the free climbing harder than 5.9. Therefore, any A3 section might be A3 simply because I don't free climb harder than 5.10 (on my best days). That A3 may go free at 5.10 or 5.14. Who knows.
