my wife ran a couple of carabiners through the dishwasher once. it actually took of the anodizing! so don't do that.

Fill a cup with white gas and submerge the lobes and axle while engaging the cam. Spray the cam off with simple green and then rinse with water. Do not let the chemicals contact the webbing.

WHITE GAS!!!! are you serious? I personally dont like getting chemicals like that near my gear.

In reply to: clean cams with toothbrush bar of soap warm water elbow greese works fine, I have done it many times. make sure you rinse well. once dry it's best to use graffite powder to relube. Things like WD40 or oil will work but collect new dirt faster. That's the way I've always been told to do it.

In reply to: looking for a safe way to clean the crud out of my cams. any suggestions? I've had good results using Metolius' cam cleaning kit . Though you could probably put together a similar kit cheaper if you go to a local bike shop.

I got the white gas info from Climbing Mag. I've done it on all my cams and it works great.
