Hi !!

When you do not like a particular picture category (like "boulder", in my case).
Do you avoid rating pictures in this category or do you rate them with a low score??

I think that it is a bad idea to give a picture a low rating because of its catagory. If it is a choice between doing that or not rating it, I would not rate it.

Not to rate!!!It wouldn't be fair to the person/climber who put it up.

I wouldn't rate it if your reasoning behind the rating was because of the category. However, if you feel that the picture itself is good or bad, let your rating show it.

Unfortunately, rating pictures by category or by who submitted them is very common on this site. I think that pictures should be rated on the quality of the picture. Personally, if I don't feel I can give an 8 or a 10 to the picture, I don't vote on it at all. I think it is ridiculous to rate a picture low based on it being a type of climbing you don't like. Besides,

IT'S ALL CLIMBING BRUTHA!!

Jody:

I think you miss the point.
I like bouldering (and i boulder a lot, as a matter of fact). I just do not like boulder pictures as much as i like others types of pictures !!!

On the other hand, if you are going to vote only to give an 8 or 10, then the rating system itself is COMPLETELY NONSENSE. According to your criteria, all pictures will end with an average rating between 8 and 10, making the rating system absurd.

By the way, i do not see as offensive to give a low rate to some particular picture (3 points, for instance), if you consider that the quality is poor and the scene is not interesting at all (a climber toproping at a gym and out of focus, for instance).

On the other hand, i NEVER vote a picture according to the submitter !!!! I just look at it and rate it according to my personal preferences...

it doesn't matter what the picture is of, just if it's good picture. if you still don't like bouldering pictures don't rate them

indeed, i must agree that it's all climbing. but, the ratings do allow the photographer to judge the reaction of a wider audience, and thus examine and analyze how one could make their future pictures better. it is as much a tool as anything else, in my opinion.

I think the comment system should be used more. Not just like "good Picture" "Sweet" "Kool" "Love it" but aculey feed back on the picture, like saying what you like about the pic and how the submitter could make it better.
