Headpointing is a term they tend to use in europe for really runout routes that have little good protection and a ground fall is likely occur. I think they work the route on toprope and work out the moves and then they go for the headpoint and lead the route. It is kind of like working the moves and then going for the redpoint but it is more of a mental barrier than a physical one. It is different than soloing because they do have a rope and if they were to fall they "might" not hit the deck.
