I have a last minute trip to the San Diego next week and I would love to stay for the weekend and climb J. Tree. I have never been before and was wondering if anyone was going to go that would be interested in letting me hangout with them for the weekend. I not huge into bouldering, but I climb sport 10's and trad 9's. If not, any beta on where to go or camp for a couple of nights would be appreciated.

Hidden Valley Campground should be your first choice, second would be Ryan Campground. Plenty of climbing around those two areas.

Any Beta on the best routes at Joshua Tree in the 5.8 to 5.10 range. I would prefer sport routes, as I won't have my rack. How is the weather this time of year, has it started cooling off yet?

In reply to: Any Beta on the best routes at Joshua Tree in the 5.8 to 5.10 range. I would prefer sport routes, as I won't have my rack.? Here is a good resource for recommended routes: http://climbingjtree.com/rock/good_routes.html As far as sport routes, yes there are some, but scattered here and there. Sexy Grandma (9) on the Old Woman (in HVCG) has become a popular sport route. Otherwise, try to hook up with people who have gear or plan on top roping stuff.
In reply to: How is the weather this time of year, has it started cooling off yet? It is cooling off quite nicely and looks to be in the 80s by mid next week. You may just get prime weather.

Is Hidden Valley the best place to go to try to "hook up" with other climbers. I will be alone on this trip, so I'd like to meet some cool people to climb with. What is the climbers ranch I have heard about??

There are not many true "Sport" routes in Jtree. Many of the bolted routes are quite run out. Others have the first bolt way up there. Check not only Mike M's site climbing jtree.com, but for many new and previously unreported routes that are ont in any guides yet go to joshuatreeclimb.com. Both site have tons of very useful information. If you check my profile you may not need to look any further however. I a a local at Jtree, know may of the routes (Even the so called "Sport") and am always willing to share my rope or information....................

Oddly enough, in spite of Joshua Tree being a staunch bastion of traditional climbing, its newest website, joshuatreeclimb.com, contains many rad sport climbing photos embedded in its forum threads. Unfortunately, their primitive forum (rumored to be composed using EDLIN and optimized for Lynx) is difficult to navigate. You just have to click on each thread to find the photos (often, the title of the thread is not a reliable indicator of the presence of said rad pics). -Jay

Period. It takes a while to do that many routes. We're talking 1000 different routes with NO repeats counted." but you already knew that, didn't you? http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=862589&highlight=#862589

In reply to: How is the weather this time of year, has it started cooling off yet? Me and my family were up there last weekend and the weather was great. There was a pretty nice wind, only about mid 80's but if you search for the shade (most East facing formations) then the weather is absolutely perfect.

Loose Lady is a great, bolted 5.9 in the Real Hidden Valley Area. Still... I wouldn't call it a sport climb.

In reply to: BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!1 A little "Revenge Therapy" gnat???? It's all TRUE! I spammed,.... here is the real reason mr. tripper jack has taken up with mr. gordon's web site (in his own words): http://joshuatreeclimb.com/forums/joshuatreeclimb/posts/3819.html given the rather wild west, unorganized and basically unmoderated forum over there, you can hardly claim to have spammed. actually, it is a welcome upgrading in forum quality. thanks!
