has anyone made a clean aid traverse at their house before. Im going to be bolting the beams on the eaves of my garage, there are 8 beams, and i will put two bolts at the end so i can rapp down the two story building when i am done. I am going to be using FIXE bolts rated to 30kn and i have 4 1/2 in long bolts 3/8th diameter. The beams are 4in by 6in Any reccomendations? Just curious if anyone has done this before, i will post pictures when it is complete.

umm, why is the first question i have. Next i would be curious as to what you are going to aid on: one long, secure, but nasty fall hook traverse? a horizontal bolt ladder?, bolted on holds? milled out beams with slots for nuts, cams, pins, bat hooks, the usual lot? Nails and rivet hangers? The whole thing seems sorta wierd to me, but i bet it would be a great spot to train seconds on the tricky business of following traverses.

T2. Are the beams wood? If so, Fixe wedge bolts are probably not the best choice. If we are talking about wood, I'd drill a hole straight through the beam and put a long hardware store threaded bolt all the way through with a couple of washers and 2 nuts at the end. Pick an appropriate bolt grade and hole diameter for the purpose.

i am drilling completely through the beam with a bolt washer and nut. As for the why question, just because it will be fun and it will give me something to do since i cant climb for two weeks because i hurt my heel and had to get stitches. ITs just something for fun. i wont be using and hooks or anything like that, the beams are about 3-3and a half feet apart i believe, nothing crazy just something for fun. Just wondering if anyone has done anything similar

i have a bolt ladder up the side of my 3 story brick house. its fun, i've also done some clean traverses useing small cams and hooks in the brick. i don't get to climb every weekend, and when i do its ussually trad, so the bolt ladder is a rgeat way to stay in practice. and well, its fun.

i now have 5 of the 7 beams bolted, it is a TON of fun, and i have kind of a self belay with a grigri and my rope, i am having a blast putting this thing up it will be finished tomorrow. I need to get more oval carabiners since i am using all of my top roping biners for this. I will try to get one of my friends to take pictures and i will put them up when they are developed. This is such a cool way to work through an injury.
