Hey There! I'm looking for some games/activities to do with high school students as part of a rock climbing unit...anything would be great. I'm looking for things you could do in a climbing gym setting, for students in pairs or groups. Any input would be great! Thanks Reagan

Climbing blindfolded and their partner needs to guide them upwards. You can make that as sort of a race.

Add on is a good one. If you've got a fairly long wall you can do tag. Stick training is a good one too. There was an article in R&I a while ago on indoor games. not sure on the issure though

I came up with an idea for a game last week, I am yet to have played it, but it seems like a cool idea. The game is called DYNO, it is played just like the basketball game PIG or HORSE, same rules. the first person tries a dyno, and if the second person cant get stick it, then they get a letter. You would probably need a fairly large gym to play (so that you don't have the same game repeated times), but that is the only restriction that I can see. also there is Take Away, the opposite of Add On, find a fairly easy route with lots of holds, then each person does the route, taking off one hold each send. depending on the size of the wall, and the quality of the holds, you can get down to a pretty low number of necessary holds.

Add on is the classic, and follow the leader too. start simple, move on to things like who can stay on the longest without peeling etc, dont make it too competetive right away, it comes naturally

This is similar to Add On but its Add Three. Self explainitary. You just add 3, its quicker than adding one and once you reach using 12 holds reverse it. It becomes a lot more challenging as it uses much more technique. take Out is also good on a wall covered in hold. Begin with a starting and finishing hold and traverse across then take out say 3 holds.

My favorite game is to sit on the ground and try to throw little rocks into the climbers chalkbag as he climbs. Then continuously slap him in the calf until he falls off. Dodgeball is fun. One on the wall, one with a ball. "Heckle the climber" is another of my favorites. Just make fun of the climber until they jump off the wall and attempt to kill/injure you. I also invented the game "choss." The climber has to climb a wall using whatever holds he wishes, but some are spinners, some break, and others are only glued on. It's best when they dyno to a glued-on. Good safe fun for all. See? Games can be fun for everybody.

Using a laser pointer to show which hold to go for is fun, good for training and getting people to push their limits.

I always liked playing knockout. you pick a section of the wall, maby 8 feet wide by 12 feet tall, and one person climbs, and then marks a hold with a piece of tape, that hold is no longer useable in the game. you do this, person by person until somebody cant make it, you give them 3 tries, then there out. and when it gets down to two players, and the one cant make it, the winner has to prove himself by climbing with the hold he taped off.
