A new climber to the area named Dave from Eldorado pm'ed me concerned about climbing chalk on one of the caves in Cactus Heaven which contains a number of old pictographs. I finally got around to checking it out today and some a$$ has been working the inside of the cave, which requires smearing on top of the hand pictographs. Very bad karma, especially considering the abundance of better problems along the entire cliff line, I know of at least 25 within a 2 minute hike. I've cleaned off what chalk I could, and posted a new problem in the routes db which is about 10 feet over and doesn't require descerating any history. If you or someone you know has been bouldering in the pictograph cave, smack them (or yourself) in the head for me. It wouldn't take much to lose access in Ojo De La Vaca, as it is gov't land and they could easily close off the area. I'll post back with some pictures, very cool pictographs indeed. Thanks to Dave for the heads up. Max

good on you, max. nice to see climbers that are conscious of something other than a good climb. if only there were more culturally and historically aware people like you out there. -k

need i remind folks that this is one of the concerns cited when hueco was first closed/restricted to climbers? it boggles the mind that anyone would consider this acceptable. thanks for bringing this to the site.
