The most accomplished boulderer is probably Dai Koyamada. He's done 1 V16, 3 V15s, and 10 V14s. Fred Nicole has done 3 V15s and 15 V14s. Graham's only (hah) done 2 V15s and a mere 11 V14s.

All imformation from 8a.nu, I don't have all this stuff memorized.

No, that just means that I can't use reach as an excuse for failing on any of John's problems.

John Gill.
And by the way, his biography is a very good read, gives a historical perspective that is convincing. he didn't invent bouldering but he did define it.

John Gill, hands down bar none, theres a reason hes a legend. That is a different question than "who is the best boulder today", although I suspect John Gill would still be far ahead for his age group.

Doubtful, Bob Kamps boulders harder and he's older than Gill.

The most accomplished boulderer is the one who has had the most carry-over success in applying bouldering to climbing; Kauk wins hands down

Well, let's put things into proper perspective here. Kamps never bouldered anywhere near as hard as Gill did. Kamps was climbing 5.10 or 5.11 30 years ago, and he still is today, so I certainly give him lots of credit for that. However, Gill was doing 5.13 difficulty when the hardest climbs in the country were 5.9. He was clearly in a different league.

Certainly the most important boulderer, historically speaking, and the founder of modern bouldering. Someone with abilities years ahead of his era and perhaps the most influential boulderer of all time. In this sense, perhaps the most accomplished boulderer.

But in terms of pure difficulty, some of these young kids are pretty strong. Heck, there are a few kids around here who crank V8s and V9s like I can crank V2s and V3s. But they are standing on John Gill's shoulders. I hope they recognize that.

You seem to conveniently forget that Frederic Nicole has established most of the "firsts" for each of the double digit V grades and has been at it for quite a while!!!

Gill was/is certainly the most revolutionary boulderer.

Fred Nicole though has go to be the most prolific boulderer (at areas all over the world) at the upper grades. He also has climbed harder than Kauk ever dreamed of both on pebbles and sport. Therefore, if most accompolished means did the most hard ascents throughout the world no one comes close to fred

Lets not forget that Fred came very close to linking the V16 in the grampains, so thats not out of his range, and as far as raw power and brute strength goes he's still the strongest, unless you count his brother francois who in Freds one words says is stronger, not many of the worlds strongest climbers get a V14 in a couple of tries then repeat a bunch a 13's and 12's that same day, the man can do pinky one arm pull ups all day long either hand. Nuts. Tony Lampretch (spelling sorry) also very stronger boulderer, many 14's and 13's.

"He also has climbed harder than Kauk ever dreamed of both on pebbles and sport."

This state ment Is only partially accurate, Kauk has done V13, and numerous 5.14 routes not D's but still 14's and unless im outdated here he's still the only person to have done "Magic Line" in the world, 14B thin finger crack, not even Yuri has done that I believe, so to say the Kauk isn't
one of the worlds best climbers is a joke.

And Gill obviously one of the best and strongest climbers of all time, he had the power of a gymnast on the rock, who wouldn't want that kind of strength, and for his era hes was beyond futuristic, and today his problems are still hard balls allthough not the top grade anymore still hold there own as the hardballs of CO.

David Graham, great climber still needs to work on his strength, when he does he might likey pass up everyone else but that would be something, but not for a while anyways, sheer talent will only get you so far then its time to train for it. No disrespect of course.

And something to remember there is always an unknown that could kick all there asses no prob, we just need to find him\her.

Opinions :D Matt.

John Gill basically created bouldering as a separate sport, for that alone he's the most important person in the history of bouldering.
Over the last 10 years, it's definitely Fred. He's pushed far more standards in far more places than anyone else, no question. In addition, he's a nice and humble guy.

I'd say fred nicole for all reasons already posted.

but really, i would say the best is some guy nobody ever heard of. a day or two ago, an italian guy climbed repeated a V16. two guys basicly unheard of. look at realizaton, sylvian millet(sp?) made the second ascent, nobody really knew him as a famous guy, but he climbed a super hard route and did a ton of others. if you asked who was the best sport climber before he did realization, nobody would have every even new his name let alone mention it. now, he might atleast be thought of.

It's funny to me to read Jason Kehl making everyone's list. Maybe most outlandish.

Most accomplished boulderer(s)? Currently: Fred Nicole. Props though to Dai Koyamada, Dave Graham, Chris Sharma, Klem Loskot, Toni Lamprecht, the Schwaiger bros, and Toni Lamiche.

Of all time though, while John Gill's accomplishments are outstanding, when you look at how many world standard problems Fred has opened all around the world, I think Fred is more accomplished, if that's what you're judging on.

How 'bout female? Does anyone consider any particular female boulderer's record significant?

Lisa Rand comes to mind, but I'm certainly not as statisticly in tune with what other people are doing as some of you appear to be.
Thoughts?
