Was climbing last week (Barretts in Montana). 3 pitch route. Led the first pitch and was belaying my partner up, snappin' off shots. Never saw the shadow until I got home and looked at the pics on my camera... http://mtncommunity.org/dc/user_files/631.jpg Kinda neat...was unexpected as he was directly below me and was in the middle of the afternoon. http://mtncommunity.org/dc/user_files/632.jpg Only a bit of color correction/auto balance and play with the gamma (whatever gamma is), plus some cropping of course. Climbing outside the box...er something. Or, maybe a quote from the Eiger Sanction about the man inside and the man outside... Anyhoo, I thought kinda neat-o, so, there ya go. Brian in SLC

NoWhiteShirt!™ That's a really cool shot. Too bad it seems to be mid-day sun -- the light is pretty harsh. I think you should go back there and climb the route again, making the climber wear a yellow shirt and a red helmet -- anything but white! (I know it sounds like a broken record, but it bugs me more than chipped holds!) There's some cool shadow detail in that rock; I brought a bit of it out and evened the exposure a bit, and sharpened a touch: http://www.oceandave.com/631.jpg I think your close-up of the shadow is perfect!

nice framing with the talent and his shadow. the major problem is compression though, there are too many artifacts. Sharpening just increases those artifacts, i would go back to the original. It looks like there is a bit problem with the aspect ratio as well ?? here it is after playing with the aspect ratio a bit, as well as scaling down to clear some compression artifacts http://people.cs.tamu.edu/z0m8905/critic/631.jpg
