In reply to: ...are they predisposed or is it a choice...? love E. Edwards Even if they're 'predisposed', it's still a choice!

I found Senator Kerry's response to your question Madriver.
In reply to: We're all God's children, Bob, and I think if you were to talk to John Edwards wife, who is fat, she would tell you that she's being who she was. She's being who she was born as. I think if you talk to anybody, it's not a choice.

I don't think it's a choice. Being someone who constantly struggles to keep herself in fighting condition (and this is evidenced by my 250 pound sister and dad) - I could be thinner, but I also like to not be starving all the time. It would be incredibly easy for me to become obese without vigilance, and part of the reason I am vigilant is because of what I like to do. If you like to sit on your butt and watch TV or play on the computer or any of the myriad of things that people like to do, you are up a creek. If I were to do that, even with monitoring my calories, I guarantee you I'd be up at least 20 pounds by the end of the year.

But, Mac, you're just confirming what I stated. Though you suggest that you're predisposed to becoming fat, you made a choice not to and your sister's made another. I say that unless you have a medical condition like an abnormal thyroid gland or if you're on steroid medication, then it's a choice. Just like choosing to be hetero, or homosexual

its not "predisposed", its "adiposed". There are definitely some that no matter what they do, they are going to be fat. They are probably the minority. There are some that if they just did anythingthing other than sitting and eating, they would not be fat at all. Most are probably somewhere in between. I lost a bunch of weight when I was wrestling, and that was just miserable. If that is what it is like for truly fat people trying to lose weight, then I understand why so many stay fat. On the other hand, after I gained 20 lbs in 2 weeks at the end of the season, my metabolism started up again and I no longer wanted to eat constantly. I think a little excercise and change in diet would go a long way though for most.

maybe they just like food....tasty food....good food....a fan of good you might say...ever thought of that before you started passing judgement... but for the most part, everyone's different and with their own reasons....either medical, choice, lack of exercise, the lazyness of their lifestyle, the non-climbing they do or they just can't help themselves, who am i (musculer, thin, tall, male) to judge them...

In reply to: Just like choosing to be hetero, or homosexual  Mister Pinktricam, I considered long ago whether or not to call you on this "straight pride" thing, the graphic you use as your sig.... a thinly (if not at all) veilied homophobia. You're obviously stuck in your ways, so I won't even bother. I'll just ask you to keep your prejudice(s) to yourself.

In reply to: But, Mac, you're just confirming what I stated. Though you suggest that you're predisposed to becoming fat, you made a choice not to and your sister's made another. Well, Pink, here's the thing. Some of my friends think I have a borderline eating disorder because of it. I think about food all the time - how many calories I can have, if I should eat now or wait it out, should I just eat this all in one go and regret it later . . . it would be wonderful to say "Screw it," and just eat like everyone else does. Making that choice also makes me neurotic about diet. Sometimes I wonder if its worth it. I think folks like Camryn Manheim are awesome for just accepting the status and being as healthy as they can be. Sadly, because I am so neurotic, I never will - which means I'll always be worrying about food.
In reply to: Just like choosing to be hetero, or homosexual  I hope you are kidding about this. Last I checked, for most people, it isn't a choice.

if a person is weight challenged and they have a clear cut medical condition which inhibits them losing the pounds that are stacked on. Then ok its understandable however its its a fat person (no you dont fall under the weight challeged your fat) then they have the ability to toughen up, dry their eyes and do something about. "oh but I am ugly I am fat no one likes me everyone hates me think I am going to eat worms...." boo fuggin hoo get off your wideload signed trailer that you call an butt and do something about it. "I didnt intend to get fat :~~~~(" right you didnt intend to shovel that 24 peice bucket of KFC into your pie hole either. Movies and video games made you do it right? :/ I have admiration for a fat person who had the willpower and motivation to stand up one day and go "I dont like how I look so I am going to change it" and they succeed. Kudos to them

I saw "super size me" last night. Check it out if you get the chance. It is pretty funny, and amazing what eating only McD's for 30 days will do to you. (the poor guys liver turned into pate, and he gained 25 lbs)

Well, I think it's lifestyle, since we're fatter as a culture than we were X number of years ago. We drive everywhere. We supersize everything. We watch TV. We're just more sedentary in general. The really scary thing is that many people do not seem to care.

I believe some ppl are predisposed to being heavier, but the obesity that is around today..........ppl were working to feckin' hard, walking and eating healthier 20. 30. 50 yrs ago. My granny was a short, rotund russian lady. She probably carried an extra 20 lbs, but she had 12 kids, working on the farm and then in a laundry until she hit 70!!! Crips she was a tough broad! No time to get obese!

Yo, Mr. Berkley, CA, you don't know me, so you can keep you narrow-assed opinions to yer-schist-slingin' self. Mac, relax and enjoy it, baby! I think of food all ther time too! It's practically a ritual with me. I don't think I'm alone among us hetero's when I say, "A beautiful woman, a real man's woman has curves...serious curves!"

Isn't that funny, Clausti? As a climber, I feel like a big fat sludge next to someone like you, and *you* feel intimidated? Take some of my T. I have plenty to share. Guy: "Get your chest in, it's balancy." Me: "It effing *is* in, it just sticks out four or five inches further than yours!"
