I was doing some research and wanted to know if anyone out there has knowledge of any completely women-owned climbing gym. While I have seen women working in gyms I don't believe I have ever encountered one that was completely owned by women. Any info from the masses??

Wall Street Rock Gym in NJ is woman owned. They are moving currently and will re-open in Marlboro, NJ soon.

Also, I think Texas Rock Gym might be woman owned. I know a woman runs it.

It's hard to do 'research' on small, privately held companies which includes every gym I know of.

why does it matter wht sex the owner of the gym is? it wouldn't make the gym any different.

I've heard that Pacific Edge in Santa Cruz has a woman (or women) owner. I don't know if there are male owners as well.

Women completely own the gym I climb at. I just chalk-up in awe of their ownership.

Check Rock N Jamin and The Spot here in CO. I know they are at least partially owned by women. I'm not sure if they solely own it though.

Thanks for your replies. As for the individual who asked what it mattered if it was woman owned.... Doesn't matter to me. As I stated in my post, I was just curious as I had never encountered one (to my knowledge). I have been to Pacific Edge but didn't realize they were woman- or partially woman-owned.

I saw a bunch of guys get owned (or maybe pwn3d) by a woman climber at a gym, does that count?

Seriously, is this really an issue? Having worked in small biz consulting and now in analysis and lending, it's worth mentioning that the vast majority of "woman-owned" businesses are actually run more by men who give 51% to their wives to take advantage of our screwed up system of tax breaks.

Just telling it like it is. Don't be fooled by the places that just call themselves "woman-owned" for PR purposes.

I heard that the Inner Wall in New Paltz (Gunks) is/was woman owned, and that it was for sale recently.

The Touchstone Climbing gyms in California were founded and are owned by a couple, so I guess that makes 1/2 the ownership female.

Two of their six gyms are managed by women.

Actually, I think that being "woman owned" or "Viet Nam era vet owned" or anyo other such tag is more for getting preference for contracts from the govt. and/or large corporations. I don't know of tax breaks although there are probably some loan programs that give preference.

Lets see..I'm a woman, I want to expand my biz platform, I love to climb ....sounds like a plan to me.

Hey mother_sheep, "whatever the hell Amber is going by these days", Skibs...wanna open a gym? There are too many in the D Metro area but I hear climbing gym screaming in Dillon or Frisco. We could have an entire wall of "women of rc.com" and "men of rc.com" as art work.

Ski all day, climb at night? Oh hell that would be it.
