If you were driving from San Francisco to New York City in August, where would you definitely stop to do some moderate trad routes? How would you hook up with a partner?

First I would buy a copy of Tim Toulas Rock-n-Road. It has just about evey climbing area in North America. A cool way to plan some stops along the way. Since you are from SF, Yosemite is probably already a destination. Not sure of your route but I would hit Devils Tower Wyoming, maybe Utah? Colorado would be top of the list as well. Not sure what the mid west has to offer. But I think after Colorado I would go non-stop till I hit the Gunks. This site is about the best way to find partners. Just plan your route then post a thread in the partners section of the area you are planing to be in. You'll find that it is easy to find people to climb with on here and they are all pretty cool. Hope it helps! Later.

Hey Charles When you plan your route, or start to, if you happen to stragle through Minnesota (or even Wisconsin), feel free to shoot me a PM. Be glad to show you some spots to climb here in the Upper Midwest. We have all levels of routes here, just a little shorter than out west. Live Free! Play Hard! Climb On! duskerhu

Going from SF to NYC you will probably be taking the northern route? 80 thru Tahoe/Reno and beyond? I'd definately stop for a few days in Salt Lake City and environs for a few days or more!

Hi, If I was ever lucky enough to do something like that,I would decide what driving route I was going to take and then crosscheck it against the database of climbs in the route section here.As well as notifying members of this site listed in those locations. What could make a climbing cross country trip better than meeting and climbing with the people you know from this site.I have only met a few of the RC.com members and they are ALL great folks! If you cut throgh Pa. drop me a line, not much trad around but there are good spots nonetheless.Del. Water Gap has some bitchin routes. Climb Happy Mitch

You'll have, have, have to go through Colorado. August is the best time for climbing in CO.If you're coming into Colorado from AZ head to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, awsome scenery and great climbing. If you decide to head to boulder or denver climb around in eldorado canyon or try some friction climbing on the flatirons. If you don't come through CO, sorry you missed all the fun.
