SNOW in Joshua Tree

woke up to a foot of snow this morning at Joshua Tree. THE PARK IS CLOSED TODAY DUE TO SNOW. snowstorm still ongoing when leaving this morning. the 62 was closed and might still be closed, but able to head north on 247 to Victorville and connect to the 15 and then the 10 west back to LA. 247 was slushy but should be ok if vehicle has good traction. drive slow. saw couple of pickups that veered into the ditches. went past couple officers who grinned and said the road to Victorville was passable but i'd be on my own

oh yeah, if you drive a white pickup truck half covered with white snow and have a habit of lingering in other people's blindspots with the road barely discernible in the middle of a snowstorm, TURN YOUR FRIGGIN' LIGHTS ON!!

Yup, it's been snowing here since around 12:30AM this morning. It has pretty much snowed non-stop all day. We have at least a foot at my house (1 mile outside the west entrance) and it is supposed to continue all day!

Never thought I'd be happy to have 4-wheel drive in J-Tree. Don't think it was absolutely necessarry, but watching some people slide all over the place and get stuck made me glad to have it.

Clean and Jerk was skied for the first time today. The FDist's procaimed their new run a "Black Diamond", although some who followed felt it had been sandbagged and is really a "Double Black Diamond".

Hmmm. Maybe we shouldn't have used circle / square / diamond symbols on the maps in our book to denote easier to more difficult routes.

It was really beautiful up there. I was egging my friends on to TR Big Moe but it just didn't happen. We were camping outside the park and we were going to try to drive into the park but there was too much snow.

Hey crotch,

Did you see Brian and myself stuck on Onaga Rd? We couldn't get out because a girl in a Jaguar couldn't make it back to Quail Springs Rd. Brian tried to push her uphill with his 4WD, at least until he spun out into the ditch. Called the tow truck, but the driver said he couldn't make it down to us. Well, after a couple hours of road work with a shovel, we were all able to make it out of there. Have some pics, but don't know how to post them to the thread directly.

The pictures look grim.
From the people that were there,...Does it look like it will be melted off the rock by Friday?
I don't know what the snow was like, wet or dry.

I hope the sun bakes the rock over the next 2 days.

Well, if Indian Cove has that much snow, the main part of the Park (about 1,000 feet higher) must have really gotten hammered.
