I am headed through Arkansas in 2 weeks and wanted to camp and climb for a few days! Not sure if the weather will permit, but always worth a shot! Also will be in Austin TX for a week in early January... is there anywhere to climb there? We will be camping all week. ktp

Where in AR do you have in mind? I'm game for a weekend if I'm in town. Look up Enchanted Rock State Park while in Austin, its not a far drive and from the looks of it, fantastic. PM me if before you get here and I'll let you know if I can go.

Two Words...Horseshoe Canyon...skip it if you're looking for trad, go if Sport clip em ups and bouldering are your thing. Great camping, low cost to camp/climb and last time I was there I awoke to a herd of horses running by the hammock. Very cool...

The best place i know of in Ark is Horseshoe Canyon in Jasper... about 300 trad and sport climbs... great place. I live in Batesville which is like a 3+ hour drive to Jasper, so we climb at Jamestown crags... it has about 35 or 40 good climbs... but u need a 4x4 to get to it... unless u wanna walk 2 miles. If u come to Batesville pm me and i'll se what i can do. But for the best climb'n go to Jasper.

Austin, TX/ Hill Country climbing: E-Rock-just outside of Fredericksburg, TX approx. 1 1/2 hrs. west of Austin-Enchanted Rock is a large batholith made of pink granite in the Hill Country. Bouldering/Sport/Trad and camping available. Rogers Park-1 hr. north of Austin just outside of Belton, TX. Beautiful classic pocketed limestone climbing on the banks of Lake Belton. Bouldering/Sport and many places to camp w/in close proximity. Reimer's Ranch-30 mins. west of Austin. Longer Sport/Trad routes, less Bouldering in another beautiful Hill Country setting. No camping. Good mountain biking here too. Within Austin proper there are many great areas too: McKinney Falls State Park-SW Austin near the airport. Overhanging Bouldering on pocketed limestone. Bull Creek-West Austin. Pocketed and blank limestone Bouldering. The Greenbelt-Runs throughout town and has lots of Sport routes and some Bouldering. i'm roadtripping south from toronto. my partner and i are leaving tonight, weather permitting. the weather in TN doesn't look climbable, we may be pushing through to Austin, TX. I printed out the guide for HCR in Arkansas - I'll watch the weather to see if it's warm enough to climb there by sunday...
