This is a sample of a shot from the new gigapxl project, with various crops and zooms to the point that you can see climbers on the face of HD! http://www.gigapxl.org/gallery-4.htm *Mods, this seemed general interest enough to avoid putting in Photo forum

In reply to: This is a sample of a shot from the new gigapxl project, with various crops and zooms to the point that you can see climbers on the face of HD! http://www.gigapxl.org/gallery-4.htm Thanks for sharing...I love these things for those interested, there have been a few other discussions on this subject (not half dome but..): Digitally stitched panoramas.. A gigapixel picture
In reply to: *Mods, this seemed general interest enough to avoid putting in Photo forum sorry man...thanks for at least considering this though...no worries...based on the precedent that all the other gigapixel threads like this are there...

So they are scanning a large format photographic print at incredibly high resolution? Or are they using a super-digital camera to take the shot?

They're taking several pictures, stitching it together to one picture with extremely high resolution. If you read the details on this site they are line scaning 9"X18" negs and for some panoramics stitching two or three together, but it's primarily a fillm based system. It looks like a K series airial mapping camera with a lens upgrade is what they are using. Key to the results is their access to a sub 10 micron Leica line scanner. Not likely for most of us!

that's what I thought from reading their description but it was still a bit confusing. You mean you don't have a 10 micron scanner? I thought everyone had one.

Is it just me or does anybody else want to ride something down cloud's rest everytime they see it? I guess I could ski it in the winter but the smoothness of the rock wants me to mtn. bike, or mtn. board or something down it.

In reply to: Is it just me or does anybody else want to ride something down cloud's rest everytime they see it? Haha, you're not the only one! I was thinking of rolling down it in a Zorb ball. http://www.zorb.com/images/photos/L8-1.jpg Talk about a quick descent.
