Half the point of these posts, fartfun, is to keep this thread visible in case the person who lost the grigri logs on. ...and to amuse those of us who participate. And, according to the emoticon you selected, you can relate to that. ;) Just giving you a hard time. -Kate.

i was climbing at devils lake a while ago, and this party/group had roped off at least 10 climbs, all in a very popular area, each one had a rope hanging from it, with a grigri and locking beaner atached. i was temped to steal one, because they were being really big ass's in taking up all that area and not even climbing on them (they were eating lunch at the time). but i didnt't steal one yeah me!

Has anyone else noticed that there are people from Ohio EVERYWHERE?! I swear it's the 4th most common license plate in the DC area after DC, MD, and VA. I'm guessing that Ohio must completely empty out every weekend. Can't say that I blame them. I've never been to OH, and I think there's a reason for that. Funny (and true) story: A friend and I are hanging out in a noodle bar in Kyoto (cuz we were hungry). A friendly Japanese man struck up a conversation with the apparent intent of practicing his engrish. He told us that he would be visiting the united states soon. The following conversation ensued... "That's great! How long will you be visiting for?" "3 weeks." "Wow! Awesome! What cities are you going to visit?" "Only one." "You're only going to visit one city?" He nods and says "Yes, Daton" "Daton? Where is Daton?" "Daton. Daton, Ohio." "Dayton?! You are going to visit Dayton?" "Hai. Yes. Dayton, OH." "And you're going to spend 3 weeks there?" "Yes" "Where else are you going to go?" "Just Dayton." "What are you going to do there? Do you have a conference or is it for work?" "No work. Vacation." "Vacation? In Dayton?" "Hai. Yes. Vacation in Dayton." "What are you going to do for 3 weeks in Dayton?" "See the sights." "The sights... In Dayton...." I didn't know where to go from there. He later told us that he was going with 15 other Japanese tourists and that they were all going to spend 3 weeks in Dayton, Ohio. Anyone from Dayton see my friend sometime in 2002? I can't imagine a group of 15 Japanese tourists is something the city of Dayton will soon forget.

This grigri case looks like a job for Guy Noir, Private I.

[quote="climbingnurse"]I can't imagine a group of 15 Japanese tourists is something the city of Dayton will soon forget. They might, /might/ be hard to spot. Dayton.. AFB. Some cliffs.. limestone at that.. nominally flat, flatter than where I am at, geologically speaking.. Hell, anyone wish to purchase a grigri? Mine isnt stolen, rarely used, heavy like the other grigri's, and still very shiny, hardly worn. Hell, if Climbhigh's is stolen.. then.. :)

Not much can restore my faith in the Climbing Community faster than someone actually trying to return a piece of gear. To actually increase the probability of it working, wouldn't it be cool to have a lost and found area? Simple protocol like claimer must show some identifying mark or something?

Would work great except contrary to popular belief on the site, only a very small percentage of climbers are members or even look at RC.com casually. I suggest that the finder of said lost object should post locally at the outdoor store message boards or at the location of the find if applicable.

Dayton 2 whole exits of "fun"!! try www.ohioclimbers.org or emailing the local gyms. btw I'm only a transplant here, the reason you might see so many ohio plates in DC, MD, and VA is Dayton house the Air Force Institute of Technology. Students are then stationed in those areas.
