Barry O'Dwyer on John Gaskins Roof Problem, V8, in Glendalough. Any ideas? A tighter framing perhaps?

PS - The 2nd Irish international bouldering meet is going to be held in Glendalough in March. If any of you guys have holidays then... It was brilliant last year with a few new 8a's done. Details on www.theshortspan.com

i usually like borders on my photos, but i feel the general rc.com community is anti-border.

as far as the borders concerned... whats with the off-center black outline?

5px on the top, 3 px on the bottom

5px on the left, 3 px on the right

id lose the outline, its pretty distracting overall...

excellent pic.
i do not even saw that the black borderlines are mismatched before you mentioned. i do not care. the white border is fine. your signature is small, and not disturbing. But you might wanna place it to the left edge, because the talent is on the right side, and my eye focusing on the talent is too close to your signature.
very nice tonal distribution.
there is lots of stuff int the picture, none is disturbing. very nicely done. the talent and the action (or the lack of it) blends nicely to its surroundings. its quiet and calming.
The spot light kind of lighting on the pad and grass is not too dominant, but perfect.

my only concern would be the black hole the talent is coming from. On one hand it is nice, that he is emerging from the darkness. On the other hand it is the only blackhole in the picture, and is somewhat unbalanced. The talents lower half is not visible, which is kind of distracting for a boldering shot. but that might be me..

overall, i would give a straight 10.

I've photographed this problem a few times and have triead a few diifferent angles, Close up of the hands, View from above and below the climber etc, but none of them seem to have worked. I liked this one because I felt it put the climber in context a little more. I do agree that the derk hole is kind of distracting though. I got a few shots of the climber topping out but none of them had a visible face or interesting pose.
