In reply to: perhaps its that tai is used to having people screw up his name and therefore gets enraged when people can't pay attention enough to get a name as simple as "erik" correct. I think next you should ask chad what his name is short for...just to continue your run.   Thank you mel, you always know how to make me smile ;)

In reply to: yep - broke my heart? eh? nope - no interest in football. OH...one of those...ie, a normal girl. I'm one of those freaky chicks who decides to get into football so I don't lose my fiance for 16 weeks every year. I get my best knitting done during the football season. I still think they should let me coach. All I need is the amazing yen from ocean's eleven, and the ability to clone tony siragusa from the superbowl year...

aaaawwwwwwwwwsome Mel! You guys gotta come visit sometime! I was talking with girls from work yesterday and one said 'so what's the big thing you've found that is wrong with the house?' and I said.... ummm, not really anything we didn't know about beforehand, and that's all pretty minor'. She was amazed, said we're the first people she knows that have bought a house and haven't had anything major go wrong with it in the first few months!! We're very glad about that, since we fully expected to have to put some money into it right off the bat, and haven't had any problems yet. ;)

NICE. we're half on the market. especially now that erik has job security. unfortunately, house prices are prohibitive right now, so we'll likely end up in a condo or rowhouse or some shiz like that with no yard.

Don't do it! Don't do it! (Unless you absolutely positively have to) I bought a condo because I couldn't afford a house this close to the city. I don't have a yard, and I don't have a porch, so when I go home I'm "locked" in my unit. I frequently wish I had moved a bit further out and had a house - with a yard, some trees and a porch - even though I like my place and am mostly happy here. Just something to consider. Mornin' All! I don't think I'm gonna make it to Thursday at this point. I'm so desparate for the long weekend, I'm starting to go stir crazy. Ugh! 3 1/2 days to Christmas, yay! New gear for me :D

In reply to: 3 1/2 days to Christmas, yay! New gear for me :D It's nice, not needing any new gear. :D Of course, I wouldn't turn down any hybrid aliens... I got to be domestic, this year - new comforter, new flannel sheets... I bought my cat a "cat tree" for the apartment so that she doesn't have to sleep on my backpack... I got a Creative Nomad Zen Ultra (mp3 player) and a new computer for myself. It's been a good Christmas season, so far. :D Oh, and I have one more gift coming - I just don't know what it is. T

Nice big back yard, closed in front porch, small back porch, but we're going to build a nice sized one eventually.

as far as buying goes, erik and mel, you'd be surprised who they'll sell a house to ;) haha! Mike and Dave and I never thought we could afford or qualify for what we got, but here you have us proud homeowners. It's a big committment, but you build up equity, and in most places around the prices are just going up, so it's good to get in while you can. Our mortgage on a $198000 house is under $1500 a month - and that is with putting less than 20% down and so having to pay a PMI for now. Renting that house would easily cost $1500 a month if not more to a UConn student ;) It's worth it if you can get in, get a good realtor and find a good house for a good deal like we did. I found a house like ours in the same town in the paper the other day - selling for $220,000 - we could easily sell for that or more tomorrow if we wanted, and we have only owned the house a month. Even if you have to start off with a condo or townhouse - you are building equity and that's mucho good - plus you could sell that in a year or two and make moola to put down on a killer house ;) I'm very pro buy now that I've been through it - stressfull but it's an important thing to do if you can!

hi derek, coach, kim. derek- we live far out. the houses are really that expensive. 400,000 for a townhouse in one area. 400,000 for a house in an area which has been nice for years but will now have a strip mall where a tree farm used to be. even a small condo will cost us quite a bit. a house in the area we rent in right now will easily cost you 280. and let me tell you, I wouldn't pay 280 for one of them if you gave me the money...its peaking right now, or peaked already, and all you'll do is lose money. welcome to the suburbs of philadelphia. so yeah. we're kinda SOL. I went over numbers with the one of my extra moms who happens to work as a realtor....if we eat ramen for the next 30 years we might be able to own a shack with a yard.

Morning peeps - what's the topic of the day? Buying a home? That is so far off in my future it is sad. Oh well. I'll take a small cup of java with a shot of peppermint. I hope everyone has a lovely holiday season - I'm off tomorrow morning for Wisconsin until Jan. 3. I am very excited to see my fam, I am not excited to leave Colorado.
