I thought it sad that, it being Christmas Eve and all, there were approximately zero topics saying this. I decided I'd just toss it out there. Happy New Year, too.

Thanks to Spray magazine, Issue #37 Posted by Mountain Man over on Supertopo, Written (very well) by our own Skibabage! 'Twas the Night Before Climbing 'Twas the night before climbing, when all round the rock Not a dirtbag was stirring, not even a sock; The tricams were hung by the anchor with care, In hopes that a belay slave soon would be there; The craggers were nestled all snug on their pads, While visions of camelots ran in gear ads; And girlfriend in her helmet, and I playing smart, Had just boiled some tea for an early alpine start, When out on the face there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the tent to see what was the matter. Away to the first pitch I flew like a flash, Tore open the rain fly, leapt over the cache. The headlamp that lit up the new first ascent Gave the luster of mid-day to my four season tent, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a portaledge, and a cragger with gear. Like a gnarly old skewler, so lively, like Phil I knew in a moment he'd bring forth a drill. More rapid than screamers his gear rack it came, And he racked up, and shoed up, and yelled out each name; "Now, 'biner! now, quick-draw! now, grigri and slings! On, harness! on hexes! on dry rope and rap rings! To the top of the pitch! to the top of the wall! Now drill away! drill away! drill away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the crux pitch the climber he flew, With the rack full of gear, and haul bag, too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the crux A loud exclamation of "boy, this piece sucks." As I focused my lamp, and was turning around, Down the descender he came without sound. He was dressed all in Schoeller, from his head to his toe, And his shells were all Gore-Tex, Arcteryx, and so; A Powderhorn chalk bag he'd flung on his shoulder, And he looked like a dirtbag getting ready to boulder. The stub of a fattie he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a Lynx harness, wore Inferno shoes And the bag he was stuffing was a new Blue Kazoo. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And tightened his laces, then tied in with a smirk, And laying his hand onside his device, And giving a w00t, he tackled the gneiss; He wailed on his ascender, to his rope gave a tug, And up he jumared and dangled and jugged. But I heard him exclaim, ere he climbed out of sight, "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!"
