i just finally got my new evolv predators (best shoes ever for overhang) :D for christmas, and have just found out how much my footwork has improved since we started out team. now, instead of dragging my feet all over the wall, i lightly place my foot on a hold, and i can't really hear it. i'm still a looooooooooooong way from sharma like footwork (he barely uses his feet anyways) and i know that until i get a growth spurt or something, (i'm only 13), i won't really get much stronger. for now, i'm pretty good at it but would like to perfect it. i climb 5.11+ sport and V4 boulder. any help would be appreciated. tanx

9 out of 10 dentists agree that this thread has no point. Glad you enjoyed your christmas gift and are climbing well, but nonetheless, your post has very little to do with the title "footwork, footwork, footwork". First you say Sharma has great footwork, then you say he doesn't really use feet... My advice would be to proofread your posts from now on to make sure that they are consistent in opinion and have a purpose in line with the title of your thread. Edited to say that also capitilization and proper punctuation also work wonders for increasing the readability of a post.

Pull hard, like Sharma, like Koyamada. As Koyamada said in an interview recently, technique is no substitute for power.

the interesting thing to me about sharma is though he appears on firts glance not to have foot work, I think its not true. He just is VERY good at knowning when its, for HIM, more efficient to use his feet vs campus. Some of the vids of Sharma show him using some outlandishly cool foot work. Its simply a different style of foot work. (and the original poster is only 13, give the kid a bread)

I am glad that things seem to be going well for you. Do you have a specific question, or a specific issue you'd like us to address? Or do you just want general suggestions as to how to improve your climbing? Or is it the growth spurt/strength issue? Next time just be a little clearer as to what you want to discuss, and everyone here would be happy to help you out!

Come on, people, he's 13, cut him some slack! Does it makes ya'll feel real adult-like to flame a kid? Does it boost your own ego? Make you feel like a bunch of big, strong, clever guys? Grow up. I give you all piles of poo, cuz you deserve it. Shame on you! (turns you all over and spanks you on your bottoms, and no, you wouldn't like this kind of spankin'...) As for you kid, keep climbin' and don't listen to these fools flamin' ya'. There are people on here who look for any opportunity to trash others. (no doubt this will be poo'ed and boo'ed, I'm sure)

(no doubt this will be poo'ed and boo'ed, I'm sure) Why should you cut people slack? Stupid posts are stupid posts, period. I am not all that much older than him so it doesnt make me feel like anything. Sometimes people learn from things so if you post something stupid, and it gets flamed maybe you will learn not to start threads that have no purpose. And lastly who the Fuck are you to tell me what I should and shouldn't say, hell Chicago is worse tham Maryland for climbing and thats saying something, you probaly see nothing but the gym, and therefore shouldn't even be clicking on a thread with the word "footwork" in it.

its wonderful to see how deftly people can turn any subject on any aspect of climbing starting with any random post into and arguement about outside being better than inside and therefore im better than you cos your just a gym rat. its not often i use profanity but for fuck sake get a life

Hmmm....though the point of the post wasn't especially clear, I think it became most pointless when you all started flaming him for the way he chose to word it. On the note of footwork, one thing that I found really helps is watching your foot actually settle on the hold securely before looking away for the next handhold. This assures that you won't be scraping around feeling for purchase and wasting valuable energy.

ok now we got coherency... to answer that, a great way to improve your footwork is to make sure that the first placement of your foot is the one you want, and make it as silent as possible. this may tire you out and bump you down a grade, but you should improve good luck
